I don’t think these people are ready to vote

There's a move afoot to extend the voting age downwards to young children (their votes would get counted on a fractional basis).  As a parent who interacts a lot with young children, I think this is stunningly stupid.  As more evidence in the stunningly stupid category, I offer the beginning paragraphs of this somewhat macabre story:

Authorities are investigating how a 46-year-old Mill Valley man wound up dead inside a car in a Novato neighborhood – and lay there unnoticed for up to five days.Joan DeYoung was walking her dogs Wednesday evening near the 7-Eleven off South Novato Boulevard when she came upon some children around a parked Oldsmobile on Larch Drive.

"There was a group of about 10 kids standing around the car saying, 'There's a dead body in there, there's a dead body in there!'" DeYoung said. "And they had a cell phone, so I said, 'Why don't you call the police?'"

She came back around half an hour later and saw no children and no police, so she peered through the car's heavily tinted windows and saw a man's legs in the back seat.

"I didn't really want to see a dead person," she said. "I could just see the guy's legs on the side of the car I was on."

DeYoung called police, who confirmed that the man was dead. According to police logs, the man had blood coming from his nose.

Kids have about the same judgment capacity, apparently, as dogs, who would also excitedly sniff around and then move away.  Indeed, a dog would probably be better in the situation, since it would at least use its own private version of a call to 911:  a bark.
