A fascinating user driven news site

Through Webloggin, I've learned about something called Newsvine.  I'm still struggling a bit to figure out just what Newsvine is, but it seems to be a combination news outlet and blog spot that's driven by its readership.  You should toddle on over and check it out, because it strikes me as something with the potential to be a useful forum for collecting and disseminating information without the MSM acting as intermediary (although it does rely on AP news stories).

BW, your posts led me to this source as well. It is appealing, especially in its format. PowerlineNews suffers in comparison. Please tell us if you learn more about it. It appears to be conservative in orientation and not just a pasteboard for the MSM. Just what I am looking for!

I do admire the hard work on your new format!

    Book,

My gimlet eye tells me that most articles and comments are leftie.. with a few conservative thrown in to make it “look” fair and balanced.

But after all, I AM unabashedly narrow-minded!

    Your site does look great!

    Hi Jack,

The articles on Newsvine are completely user driven based on a vote system. For instance, the column I wrote two days ago spent the whole day yesterday at the top of the Newsvine. Media Bias and Social Networking - A View From the Right

You can see from the comments that there was a good discussion that was partially driven by people on the left who opposed my premise. Thus lefties managed to push my article to the top of the stack for a whole days worth of discussion. In the end I believe the debate was a victory for me as others came to defend the article with an objective eye.

You can also see how I seeded a Bookworm article out there as well. Preemie Pain and its impact on the Abortion Debate

This is great because it allows us to continue to write on our blogs and distribute it everywhere.

Note that Yahoo and Digg also have a social network. You can literally post blog articles on nationally syndicated sites with little work!

The concept allows readers of the blogs to post articles by their favorite authors on other sites. This is one of the best opportunities we have to help market our ideas. I plan to do a write up on Newsvine and social networking in general.

    Well, WebLogin Editor,

    Please accept my apologies.

My gimlet eye is seriously hampered and rusted by degenerative macular degeneration.. so I did not observe the good. I will be more czareful in the future.

    Thanks for your comment.

I must admit, I am not exactly familiar with the mechanism of your site, probably because, not only am I narrow-minded but also just an old guy!

Thanks for your kind explanation, Jack

Not so many apologies, Jack. I think it’s impressive how sophisticated your computer use is. So many people from the generation or two beyond mine are afraid of computers. You’ve embraced a new technology. That gets kudos!

I also found Webloggin’s explanation helpful. I’m getting creaky enough myself that I’m not keeping up too well with the changes the seem to happen daily in cyberspace.

    Thanks Book,

You are just trying to make an old codger feel good… and it worked…

It is not that I can’t keep up with advancing technology. That is not a problem. I just don’t understand that with which I am keeping up!

I am the personalization of the old saw, “The faster I go the behinder I get.”

    Jack
