I’m no domestic Goddess
I've been sewing for the kids — not because I want to but because I have to. They need some special clothes for school that I can't find in the store.
I learned how to sew thirty-five years ago, and hated it. I therefore stopped sewing for thirty-four years. However, with children, needs sometimes dictate what we do. I therefore got myself a $45.00 sewing machine on eBay last year, and I've been off to the races . . . so to speak.
What I've learned is that thirty-four years has taught me some level of patience and given me a little bit more coordination, but absolutely no skill. The things I turn out are workable, but just barely.
The process, however, while a bit fatiguing, isn't painful anymore. Indeed, I'm sometimes thrilled by my ability to follow the serpentine and often unintelligible directions that accomplish every sewing project.
Will I have get good at this? I sincerely doubt it. Nevertheless, I'm pleased that I can meet my children's needs and that my kids are still young enough to be impressed.
