You can always count on the AP

The AP wrote a fairly comprehensive story about the latest Congressional scandal: Rep. William Jefferson, a New Orleans Democrat, took a $100,000 bribe from an informant and boasted about other acts of corruption, all of which was caught on videotape. We've seen this kind of story before about Republicans, and it always ends with a wrap-up of all the other Republicans scandals, just to make sure that we all understanding that there are Republican scandals.

As I got to the end of the Jefferson story, I naively thought that it would conclude with a wrap-up of other Democratic scandals, so that we could put Jefferson's acts in their proper Democratic context. Silly me. Here's AP's wrap-up on this latest Democratic scandal:

The Jefferson investigation has provided some cover for Republicans who have suffered black eyes in the investigations of current and former GOP lawmakers, including Tom DeLay of Texas, the former majority leader.

Republican Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California, a Vietnam-era jetfighter ace, was sentenced in March to more than eight years in prison for accepting bribes on a scale unparalleled in the history of Congress.

Yup. Even when it's a Democratic scandal — a huge Democratic scandal — the story is still about Republican corruption. You've almost got to admire this kind of singlemindedness, until you realize that it's coming from a news entity that falsely advertises itself as politically objective.

UPDATE:  Am I the only one who keeps wanting to add the word "Clinton" after this guy's name?
