Victorian laments

Sometimes I’m lucky enough to stumble across an unusually beautiful post, that takes a familiar subject, fleshes it out, and brings fresh insights to what has became nothing more than a faded Victorian post card.  This time, believe it or not, that subject is the high mortality rate that plagued 19th Century Americans, given meaning at Callimachus’ Done With Mirrors.  I can’t do the post justice with a mere summary, so I simply suggest that you take a few minutes, and revisit a lost time.
