Here, but not here

Sorry for the silence, but it’s been soccer all day long. This is the last gasp weekend of the season, and the kids seem to have been playing non-stop today. I’m kind of done. I love the kids’ soccer, but the carpools and scheduling difficulties have worn me out. It also gets exhausting sitting on the sidelines cheering (I’m a very enthusiastic audience). Yes, yes, I’m being a bit tongue in cheek here, but it really is time for a seasonal change.

Soccer’s only partially an excuse for not blogging. I know there’s tons going on what with elections, War, global warming debates, etc., but I somehow feel very detached from it all this weekend. I’ve blogged before about those “holding your breath” moments, those times where something pivotal is about to happen and you find yourself just waiting to see the outcome. That’s how I feel now. I’ve urged readers of this blog to vote Republican, but I don’t think I’ve changed any minds. Those who were planning on voting Republican would have done so anyway, as would those planning to have voted Democrat. Maybe, just maybe, I got one or two people who were planning on sitting it out to realize that this is an important election, and votes count.

I may also be a little tired because my vote does not, in fact, count, at least for Congress. I live in such a Democratic haven that it’s a completely safe seat, no matter that the incumbent (Lynn Woolsey) is completely ineffective, even as to her own constituency. If you’re in Marin, think about voting for Todd Hooper, a moderate Republican and all around good guy.  Arnold seems to be safely in, regardless of my vote, and that’s a good thing.  I’m not thrilled with Arnold’s wily political maneuverings, but I have to say I’m grateful for his savy, because he’s likely to win against the awful Angelides.

Where I do feel my vote will count is the Propositions:  Yes on Prop. 85, which requires parental notification for underage abortions; no for Prop. 87, a blank check from the people of California to yet another unaccountable government agency, without any regard for the marketplace.  Everything else?  Well, I’m as confused as the next voter….

Anyway, I don’t know how much more blogging I’ll do this weekend, but I’m sure the weekend itself will leave me mentally refreshed and ready to wade into verbal battle.
