Domestic terrorism or just another bad guy?

The Feds may have prevented an attack against shoppers in a mall a couple of hours away from Chicago:

A Rockford man is being held on terrorism-related charges after he allegedly targeted a shopping mall. Derrick Shareef, 22, targeted the Cherry Vale shopping mall in Rockford, FBI spokesman Tom Simon said. Shareef allegedly dealt with an undercover FBI agent, trading stereo speakers for hand grenades. Shareef is expected to have his initial appearance today in federal court. He already is in FBI custody, Simon said.

Although there are very few facts in this story, the man’s last name does at last temporarily put him in the category of “ideologically motivated attack.”

UPDATE: There are more facts and it was definitely a planned terrorist attack, right down to the suicide video proclaiming his faith:

Derrick Shareef, 22, targeted the Cherry Vale shopping mall, which has about 130 retail stores. But in recorded conversations he said the mall was “just one potential place,” and that he hoped to one day “smoke a judge,” according to the federal charges.

Should he die before the attack, Shareef made a videotape statement to explain his actions.

“I am from America, and this tape is to let you guys know, who disbelieve in Allah, to let the enemies of Islam know, and to let the Muslims alike know that the time for jihad is now…be strong, oh Mujahideen…May Allah protect me on this mission we conduct…so do not cry, do not mourn for me,” he said, according to the FBI affidavit.

I’m too lazy to look, but I’m willing to bet that within 24 hours, this will have been smoothed away in the MSM as just a lone crazy guy, rather than part of a larger jihadist syndrome. The MSM doesn’t realize that you take enough of these crazy jihadists and, whether they act alone or in concert, you’ve got a large problem. The MSM also just can’t seem to take its eye off the crazy Christian ball long enough to realize that this is where there’s real trouble.
