When I was first in France, in 1982, Israel had just invaded Southern Lebanon. Already then, Parisian citizens made their views on the subject known, since grafitti on every surface flowered with vile, anti-Semitic threats and descriptions. Surprisingly, I didn’t see that type of grafitti this time around, perhaps because it no longer needs to be on subway walls — this time, the government has embraced those same views, rescuing them from the gutter. The question, of course, is why have the governments in Europe turned on Israel and made common cause with common terrorists? Richard Baehr, writing at American Thinker, has a lengthy article that examines the many factors that have caused Europe to revile Israel. If you read nothing else this weekend, take some time to read Mr. Baehr’s writing.
