Don’t forget to change your clocks

As a public service announcement to those of my United States readers who, for your entire lifetimes, have been springing forward in April, don’t forget that this year, we’re springing forward in March.  This weekend, March 11, is the new spring daylight savings time change day.  Hmmm….

Can’t help wishing they’d leave time alone.

It’ll be more than usually screwy this year, too, because we’re going it alone this time around. The rest of the world did not come with us, and for a couple of weeks we’ll be severely out of whack with everybody else. For example, between Sunday and the last Sunday of the month, NY and London will be only four hours apart. San Francisco will suddenly be an hour ahead of Vancouver BC - which’ll make it interesting for airlines, Amtrak, and Greyhound.

So you have to wonder now, does the savings get eliminated by the energy use required to print up thousands of revised schedules that’ll only be useful for two weeks?

I think mid-March is too early. Appreciate the thought, understand why, but it’s too early.
