Edith Piaf

I’ve been an Edith Piaf fan since I was a teenager.  When I was about 14, I discovered amongst my parents records a 1950s “Best of” album with songs from post-war French singers, including Charles Trenet and Edith Piaf (these French performers were enormously popular after WWII).  Turns out that Edith Piaf is now enjoying a renaissance in France, where her music is played everywhere, there are plays about her, and there is a megahit film about her, which will open in the US in June.  If you’re at all curious about one of the greatest cabaret singers ever, you can listen to this NPR story about the renewed Piaf cult in Paris.  Or, just ignore the vapid story, and listen to her songs in the background.
