I am intrigued. Here I thought it was the British military combined with good police work in Ireland and Britain that forced the IRA to an impasse.

Also, I beg to differ with regard to the Irgun - the Irgun was a sideshow - the bulk of the real fighting was done by the Haganah and Palmach before they (and the Irgun) became the IDF. It was the IDF that secured Israel's independence.

WHile this is not a permanent victory, Book, given that the enemy is still alive and has not surrendered in good faith, it does prove out my thesis that death is the great equalizer. Once a person is dead, there is no hope for him nor for his organization responsibilities. Dead is dead. You can't resurrect people. It is the only permanent solution around. However, often problems reach greater scales than the sum total of any one person's life.

THe will to achieve is subverted by the views and opinions of others. For their will is not yours. They say you cannot but only you can say that you will not. Their impositions of their will comes as factual reality to you, for if it does not become reality then why do you pay attention to it? THeir opinions are not equal to yours, because if they ever were, you will would then not be entirely yours to control. It is one thing to say that others impose powerful restrictions upon your actions that you cannot break through, because of the power gap. IT is another thing entirely to say that you willingly choose to allow another to influence you.

Even Israeli Leftists will soon realize that they stand alone at the end of all things. Their victory can only be greased by the support of others, they must themselves do the slaughtering.

Ok, let's turn your first premise around with these questions

1) Can anyone think of a terrorist campaign that was defeated by any other than military means? (Answers.....?)

2) Can anyone think of a terrorist campaign that WAS defeated by military means (Answers: Algeria - 1990s, Malaysia -1950s, Peru - 1980s, Che Guevara ./Bolivia- 1960s, etc. etc.).

3) Can anyone think of a terrorist campaign that was ultimately successful? (Answers........?!).

Yeah, thought so.
