After Berlin wrote his patriotic songs, how did he market them? He had "enablers", Americans who liked and supported what he did, corrected his mistakes and helped him.

And where are the American enablers of today's immigrants? What are they teaching them to do? What mistakes are being corrected?

I was illegal in the USA for 18 years, before the Reagan Amnesty. It then took me a full 7 years to legalise. The vast majority of illegals now are decent hard-working human beings, like I was.

Conservatives like to argue that one gun crime is no reason to ban all guns; by extension, one stupid flag protest by illegal aliens is no reason to deport all illegal aliens.

Finally, there may well be 12-15 million illegal immigrants in the USA. I would bet that at least 1 million of them are Brits, Canadians, French, Germans, Colombians, Argentines, and on and on...
Are we going to catch and hold and judge and deport these non-Mexicans with as much zeal as we are the Mexicans, or is it only the latter who are to receive the TLC of the "MIGRA"?

Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Aliens
According to a year long study, Deborah Schurman-Kauflin, Ph.D. has concluded that the U.S. public faces a dangerous threat from sex predators who cross the U.S. borders illegally. Her study covered the period of January 1999 through April 2006.

The study called Family Security Matters concludes that there are approximately 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States. This translates to 93 sex offenders and 12 serial sexual offenders coming across U.S. borders illegally per day.

How about the term "Hispanic"? Where is Hispania? Must be a big country, since there are so many that seem to originate there.

How about we call them Mexicans or Americans. They're one or the other. If they are legal, they're American. If they're illegal, they're Mexican. It's not that it's _bad_ to be Mexican - although if it's so good, why are they _here_ - but it's just that they're _not_ American. Not yet, anyway.
Some of them have made the decision in their hearts - they're Americans to be - but some of them will never be anything but Mexicans, no matter how long they stay in the US.

I am always amused when I see these protesters waving the Mexican flag. It proves to me that they are blithering idiots.

Are they waving it because of the success of the Mexican economy?

How about the pristine condition of politics in Mexico?

The huge middle class in Mexico?

The narrow gap between rich and poor in Mexico?

The only thing it does is make me laugh. They have no ideas about trying to fix a bad system, just that it is cool to be protesting.

An Ed School professor said to her class that the previous model for immigration, assimilation and learning the language by total immersion, had failed.

I said nothing to her, but later reflected on three people I knew, whose native languages were respectively French, Italian, and German. They knew no English before attending school, either because of immigration or because English was not spoken at home. They learned English via total immersion. They all obtained Master’s degrees or better, while leading productive lives. Soon after the professor’s statement, I came across an article on Manny Ramirez, then starring for the Cleveland Indians. The article said that in spite of having been in the US for over a decade, having come from the Dominican Republic at age 12, his command of English was limited. He was taking classes to improve his English, in his mid-twenties. Manny Ramirez was the “beneficiary” of “bilingual” classes in the NYC school system, which failed to teach him English.

So much for the failure of the assimilation and total immersion model, and the success of the bilingual model.
