Congress isn't interested in worthy causes, they're too busy spending our money and time interviewing Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite, plus don't forget it's very important to find out of Jarvik used a rowing double for his Lipitor commercials.

I certainly agree that being a veteran alone is not enough. I'd prefer conservative vets to liberal vets. After all, Kos, of the Daily Kos, is a vet. However, I do believe that military service does tell us something about a candidate: in my mind, it establishes a baseline of bravery, competence and leadership experience. What the vets do with that bravery, competence and leadership experience is, of course, another thing altogether.

I sympathize with the cause and the action...but remember, Murtha is also a veteran. However, just as I'm of the opinion that McCain doesn't "deserve" the presidency _solely_ on the basis that he was a Vietnam hero who survived POW torture untarnished, I also think that being an Iraq veteran _alone_ does not qualify a person for Congressional office.
I like that we're supporting their efforts - chances are that they _will_ be leaders, and should be. I just want to be sure that we want to go the direction they expect to lead us to...!
