Bookworm, in my opinion you hit the nail squarely on the head with this observation: "In the world of cognitive dissonance, if you’ve hung your hat on the multi-culti tree, and proudly proclaimed that “they are just like us, only better,” then the fact that contradictory information comes along showing that they are not just like us but are, in fact, cruel and bestial, must be disregarded — and damn the consequences for the innocent." That is precisely the end result of multiculturalism - as you have noted several times before, why don't we ever hear from feminist and other women's organizations when there is news about the horrid mistreatment and abuse of women and girls in the Middle East and South Asia? I believe it is because even liberals and other followers of multiculturalism understand that they can't criticize the practices of these other cultures and religions when they have spent the last 40 years preaching about how much more fabulous and wise they are compared to us. So instead, they make the conscious decision to remain silent in the face of horrible crimes. And really, don't their livelihoods, ego, and pride depend on it? If these folks were ever to face up to the reality of what actually goes on in all of these other cultures and religions, they'd have to stop working for their practically worthless multicultural-driven organizations, renounce a large segment of their life's work, and risk losing their influence and prestige. Few of these folks are willing to do that, even if it is for the sake of a truth that they know down deep exists. As always, Bookworm, excellent posts and analysis. I read your site almost every day.
