I was tipped to this essay by Arts and Letters Daily....and sent a copy to my entire extended family.....great stuff!!

I nominate Mamet for the Most Courageous Man of the Month....that would naturally be limited to those of us who are Stateside. For a big liberal who still lives in the belly of the liberal beast to come out like this is to paint gigantic targets on every visible part of his body! He's going to be used as a punching bag for months and years over this, and that he's willing to do it makes him a hero in my mind.

My second thought as I read the piece is that MAYBE....just MAYBE....we'll see some of the leftists who are aiding and abetting in the slow-motion destruction of America gather a bit of sanity from somewhere, and help slow the bum's rush to some form of socialism that our politicians have got us doing.

Say a prayer.....stranger things have happened.

Mamet is starting to think as opposed to the predictable leftist reflex reaction, thought he hasn't finished the journey.
After reading the full essay, I was amused by one of the reflex reaction comments that calling NPR National Palestinian Radio was borderline racist. Aside from the lack of connection to reality, it seems that the favorite reaction of a liberal to any statement he/she dislikes but can't refute is to call it racist. Any thoughts on the mindset that causes such a reaction? Aside from
Ymarsakar's description of them as a child's play toy. Good one.

Our form of government isn’t a wind-up toy, it’s a child and it takes constant supervision and guidance from We the People.

If the government is a child, then you are nothing but a play toy of that child.

Put simply: Get involved.

Toys don't get involved, they get played.

Does this mean that you’ve given up on democracy and thrown in with the authoritarians?

That's funny coming from someone that believes the government should have the power of life and death over every human decision ever made.

Your reference to National Palestinian Radio is borderline racist.

Palestinians are Arabs and Semitic. So are Jews, for that matter. The entire Southern Arabia and Northern African area was Semitic in Ancient times. The Palestinians are no race, Judea was renamed Palestine because the Roman Emperor was pissed at the Jews and thus renamed their land after an enemy of the Jews. You got fooled by your slave master, go back to the house.

Then, he continues to talk about “magnificent” schools and the jury system, both of which are products of government.

Talk about braindead. A jury is a "product" of government. Well, assuming government owns the labor and time and services of every American citizen, then I suppose a jury really is a product of government.

The government builds roads, schools, employs police officers, firefighters and manages that military you are so proud of.

So on the one hand we have military kill bots ran by the government, which is bad. Then we have juries run by the government, which is good. Isn't there like a thought in these people's heads that the only reason they are against the military and for welfare is because welfare has owned them through bribery?

He rose in my esteem, too. I didn't miss the fact that, in defending Bush as compared to JFK, he repeated all the loony left lies about Bush. Considering how recent his conversion is, one can't expect him to get all the facts straight at once. What matters is that he's thinking, and that he's chosen to use his fame as a bully pulpit, which I think is very brave of him considering the world in which he lives.

I finally read the entire piece written by Mamet, in Village Voice which normally I studiously avoid, after reading about it on blogs, and was thoroughly gratified. I've taken great enjoyment in Mamet's scripts for stage and movies, own DVD's of several of the movies. But his puerile cartoons previously posted at Huffington Post and an essay about Hollywood I read in Harper's left me cold. I assumed the man was, alas, a brain dead liberal. I'm happy to be corrected. What he wrote mirrors my own change of mind since 1998. A guy who can buck the liberal consensus and admit Thomas Sowell and Paul Johnson are worth reading and that NPR is annoying lib-speak rises in my esteem.
