Bookworm, you have just solved a mystery for me with your link to that Walter Williams article. I have been asking everyone what could be wrong with my car to cause a sudden decrease in gas milage...I was on the verge of taking it into a garage to be checked out because I have suffered a quite dramatic decrease in mpg.

One of the commenters to his article pointed out that gas station in Florida (where I have recently moved) are using a 10% ethanol mix, and this decreases mpg efficiency. Eureka! I realize I noticed a small sticker on the pump notifying me of this 10% ethanol mixture the other day too. It's good to know what the problem is, but this really ticks me off!

While I am not questioning your sincerity, Helenl, I have to question your premise. You say that it is obvious (not rocket science) that Obama's church is not racists by virtue of the fact that you people of any race may attend. Of course no one suggested that the church was racist because of who may or who may not attend.

I'm sure that you wouldn't accept the corollary.. that a predominately white association is, by definition, not racist- as long as it allowed people of different races to attend meetings. I wonder why you chose to employ such a definition?

You have to believe something whenever people come together for any cause.

The difference here is that it is one thing to ask for someone to believe in your philosophy views, it is another thing to ask another person to freely choose to believe that he or she does not have free will. That their choices have already been made for them, which is what socialism or liberation theology is asking for.

Which relegates them to more of a cult than a legitimate religious organization designed for spiritual advancement.

When people willingly give up what makes them human and what gives them the protections of the Constitution, it is not the same thing as when people freely choose to worship their own deity.

Ymarsakar, In order to join the PTA, you have to believe that parents working with teachers will be best for the child. You have to believe something whenever people come together for any cause.

It seems like this topic has been going on for a long time, but if you recall, in the first videos of Jeremiah Wright (before Obama said anything on the subject), Wright mentioned that there were a few white people present, knowing that those people were trying their best to understand the "black experience" (possible mentally but not experientially). If a person wants to understand, he/she could start with reading an African American history book (American history from a black POV) such as “Before the Mayflower” by Lerone Bennett Jr. or "From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African American” by John Hope Franklin. Learn American history from another point of view. And I am warning you, in the beginning, you will think you are reading fiction: You are not.

“This is an enormous amount of mercury that’s going to enter the waste stream at present with no preparation for it,” she said.

Once again, we see that central planning agencies making choices for people are never as efficient nor as ethical as allowing people to make choices of their own free will, using a rare commodity called liberty. Something the fake liberals never really liked seeing.

It’s a black church.

If being black means holding up African tribal values that created endless strife, warfare, and starvation over the American system of plenty, security, and prosperity, then I'm not sure being a "black church" is anymore superior than being a "racist church".

This isn’t rocket science. It’s easy, if you want to “get it.”

I guess that means I can join Islam, make everyone eat pig and cows, and they'll accept me. I guess that also means mass murderers can join the Church of Jesus Christ, just cause it is "easy" to get in.

You don’t have to be black to join a black church

While that may or may not be true, you do have to believe in some part of Christianity if you want to join the Christian church and you need to stop eating pork if you want to join an Islamic mosque.

When the creed of a church demands things, and it is based upon the demand for the black experience which isn't available to white people by your very own admission helen, then how exactly do you expect people to join such a church?

Helen: I say that Obama's church is a racist church because its creed and its preacher both proclaim loudly that whites are bad. Judaism doesn't bad-mouth anyone except the Babylonians and the ancient Egyptians (oh, and the Philistines). That it is a black church is not where the racism lies. It lies in the dogma and the preaching, which are unique to Obama's denomination. These factually inaccurate comparisons between Jews and everyone else do not advance your argument.

Bookworm, The church Obama attends isn't a racist church. It's a black church. Unless, of course, you think Judaism is racist. I don't. Anyone can join the church Obama attends, just as anyone can convert to Judaism. You don't have to be black to join a black church, and you don't have to be Jewish to convert to Judaism. This isn't rocket science. It's easy, if you want to "get it."
