I just always hope that their families do not pay attention to the crazies on television and the marches and protests. I hope they know that many Americans truly appreciate that our lives and lifestyles are a direct result of sacrifices made by their sons and men like them.

I just don't want their families to think we have forgotten about them. They really are not forgotten but honored and admired.

It is about standards of excellence, Book. When society no longer has heroes to look up to and measure their own personal conduct by, then they will fabricate those heroes, like Obama.

The human race in any human civilization needs people to look up to and people to look down upon. For the Democrats, it is the Republican "wingnuts" they look down upon and the racists like Rev Wright, Jackson, and Sharpton they look up to.

In this vacuum created by the Hurricane of Disbelief, why is it so surprising that real heroes are being purposefully obstructed from the public conscience, Book?

Real heroes tend to put the fake heroes in a bad light. We can't have that, now can we. For the fakes, having others demonstrate a level of excellence that the fakes could never equal or even talk about, is a bit too much, don't you think, Book.

Many individuals, when faced with a standard of excellence, reject their own inferiority. They try to pull the role models off their pedestals, simply to make themselves feel superior. Islam does that. Black liberation theology does that. Democrat policies do that as well.

You, Book, don't. For whatever personal defects you feel you may have, you do not try to pull down people you see as having a superior quality compared to you. And that trait must be recognized for the moral courage that it is.

I've always been ashamedly aware of my own cowardice. In a discussion with a group of moms the other day, though, one of them told a story of her turning into Rambo when it came to protecting her children. We all nodded, because we could imagine doing that. The men and women who willingly put their lives at risk for others who are not their children, however, continue to amaze me.

Yes, I wonder about those type of men.

Here's another.

And another recent one.

Here's one I remember from earlier in Iraq.

And a search for Peralta turned up this soldier too.

What makes someone act in such a way? I have no idea. I imagine in similar circumstances I'd head for the hills. Even if that wouldn't be likely to save me.
