Thanks for all your kind words. In answer to your question, Tap, my son is taking martial arts at this dojo. Since I'd done martial arts years before my kids were born, I started getting jealous watching his wonderful classes, and that's how I reengaged. I was bad more than a decade okay, and I'm worse now, but I really love it.

As for this dojo, I could not ask for a better place. In addition to teaching the kids martial arts techniques, and the discipline that goes with those skills, the dojo spends a part of every class giving the kids lessons about good behavior: respect, kindness, responsibility and honesty. My son's behavior and personality have improved a thousand percent in the six months since he started. I just love the place.

It sure can cut both ways. I've had it from both directions from my kids, I know. Their honesty can be brutal or charming! :)

So Book, are your kids involved in martial arts too? Mine started Jukido Jujitsu about 6 months ago and it has done wonders for them in so many ways - physically, mentally and otherwise...even their manners have improved.

The other day, while reading something on the computer screen, I happened to say aloud "How rude!"

My ten year old son chirped in with this comment: "Rudeness is a weak person's imitation of strength!"

When I asked him where he'd learned that he told me 'from Sensei'. I get these little gems from him all the time, now. He's learned the 7 tenets of his particular martial art and understands them as well. He told me that he was glad that I was practicing 'benevolence' the other day when I contributed a few cents to the elderly lady ahead of me in the grocery store when she was a bit short the other day.

I'm telling you, this martial arts thing is MARVELOUS. His sensei, too, I think is particularly good.

" Sharper than a serpent's tooth.."

The directness of children can cut both ways. Coming from your children, you know it wasn't a false compliment. Kudos to you!
