Of course the firemen were mellow, they’re mellow-type guys.
The cops, naturally, would be uptight about it - but the one with the biggest problem is apparently Mrs. Cullom, who always thought she lived in a nice building, but now that she knows what goes on behind at least one closed door has apparently decided she doesn’t.
The interesting part about this to me is that yesterday she thought it was a nice building - now she doesn’t. What changed? Did the halls get dirtier since yesterday? Did the electricity and plumbing disappear over night? Did the roof start leaking at moonrise? Did the neighbors grow fangs and a lust for blood last night? Was she greeted by platoons of rats patrolling the halls when she opened her door this morning?
Ther only thing that changed between yesterday and today is the state of her knowledge about one specific issue. So what changed, is in fact her. But that isn’t what she said, is it. She thought it was a nice building, now she thinks differently - but the building hasn’t changed at all. (Except for the charred bits post-fire.)
I’m not going anyplace in particular with this, just musing on attitudes, perspectives, etc. It simply interests me. Maybe oddly.
