Most lawyers (and obviously, most journalists) have no scientific background. What base of knowledge are these people drawing on? Do they think scientists can just wave a magic wand?? Just thow enough money at it and it will go away???

I wonder whether Friedman is so clueless, or is he denying reality to try to reclaim the credibilty he had (within his circles) before his reluctant support for the Iraq war.

I always enjoy this one “…develop alternatives to oil.” It assumes that somehow, somewhere there is a material just waiting to be discovered that will one day replace oil. It’s magical thinking. You can reduce the usage of oil, but you can’t just replace it. It shows me he is absolutely clueless about how things work, how things are made, or how our current civilization is possible.

I’ll make a prediction here and now, a President Obama will not develop an alternative to oil even if he had four terms to do it in.
