I think that’s a locution we have to change, by the way - “McCarthyism.” I don’t know what it means, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t mean what the common understanding of the word has come to be.

I didn’t much like Joe McCarthy as an individual, certainly; but every single damn time he went looking for communists - he found them. He asserted that the State Department was riddled with them - it was! He asserted that Hollywood was riddled with them - it was! I don’t recall a single “witch-hunt” where he didn’t find some witches.

So it makes me wonder for what “McCarthyism” might be a synonym. Being absolutely correct every time?
