The fountain of youth

I went to my dermatologist for a sun damage check, since I’m fair skinned and got a lot of sun in my younger days (before sunscreen). While there, I seized the opportunity to ask about remedies for the ordinary wear and tear age brings to skin (especially fair skin). The doctor recommended two things: the Obagi line of products, which infuse Vitamin C and other things into your skin; and the Clarisonic, which uses sonic vibrations to scrub your skin.
The products, which I’ve used for two weeks, seem to work, but the result isn’t quite what I expected. Like an aging Hollywood star who’s had all that plastic surgery, I look smoother, but not younger! It’s rather peculiar, in that I feel as if I’m a well-polished antique.

You are doing the whole melanoma thing aren’t you? Having every inch checked? It is my passion in life – been there, done that, don’t want anyone else to!
I’ve started using Bare Minerals – approved by the Melanoma Foundation.
Good luck with your new goodies. I’m using Epicure which is probably closely akin to what you are using.

Yup, it is the melanoma thing. My parents, who were raised in the tropics and Middle East, and are as fair skinned as I, both had problems — my Dad had melanoma and my Mom has chronic pre-cancerous lesions. My grandmother also had melanoma. With both the melanomas (Dad’s and grandmother’s), they were diagnosed quickly enough that excision was the only treatment, and it was successful. So I get my checks!

A look at PETA’s organization is always a preview of what the world would look like if we defeated Sunni and Shia terrorism. There’s always ELF and animal rights terrorism.
Book it sounds as if you would benefit from increasing your dietary intake of antioxidants, which protect living organisms from the corrosive effects of oxygen (ultra-violet light promotes oxidation by creating hyper-active ozone and other oxygen radical molecules from oxygen). By increasing your intake of antioxidants, you reduce what is called your body’s “oxidative potential”.
Great sources of antioxidants are berries (esp. cranberries and blueberries) and whole grains (especially flaxseed). Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. They are also great sources of dietary fibers and other anti-carcinogens.
If nothing else, you will be a lot healthier for it.
But, Danny, what about chocolate?
Hey!!!! You have a problem with well polished antiques????
Polished, yes, even without the products… but Antique?
ORAC gives you something like 60 servings of berries in a tinful of berry tasting fruity powder drink. OPC-3 uses pinebark extract which is some 10 times, or near that order, more effective than regular anti-oxidants extracted from say Vitamin E.
Which means you can eat all the chocolate you want Book and still be able to get your servings of anti-oxidants and berries.
How could I be so remiss? Of course, chocolate is actually loaded with antioxidants and other compounds that make you not just healthy, but happy!

If you really want to improve your skin and hair quality, consume omega-3s.
Well polished antique: What a great metaphor! I know just what you mean, unfortunately. lol.
