I picked on the French in the D-Day thread, but here I wasn't thinking of them mostly. Of course, you can easily see the connections even if it wasn't conscious on my part.

"What is unpleasant is looking in the mirror and realizing that you yourself are part of something that needs to be corrected. Anti-Americanism is one of the most convenient ways to face looking in the mirror and blaming the Americans, rather than yourself."

Why are we failing to see the mounting power of evil enemies?

Seeing it and doing something about it are inextricably linked. If they see it, they will have to do something about it, so so long as they have their heads sunk in the sand and see no threats, they don't have to get off their arses and actually do something.

Inattention, lack of discipline, procrastination, and various other non-productive and parasitic traits have killed more human beings, in the final tally, than nuclear weapons and incidents in war. I dare say that more have died in such accidents and what not than have died in war, especially if you remove the people that died in war because they weren't paying attention.

But it is unpleasant to accept the fact that many people are evil, and entire cultures, even the finest, can fall prey to evil leaders and march in lockstep to their commands.

It's not unpleasant, otherwise many anti-Americans would eventually tire of being anti-American. But they don't. What is unpleasant is looking in the mirror and realizing that you yourself are part of something that needs to be corrected. Anti-Americanism is one of the most convenient ways to face looking in the mirror and blaming the Americans, rather than yourself.
