Also, making your supporters hate an enemy like Code Pink is a good idea. But you should never mislead people into hating them for the wrong reasons, such as a poster that they themselves did not write or carry.

Hate for the enemy is all nice and good, but once must hate them for the right reasons, not the reasons we wish to have. That is not the path of discipline and honor.

<B>[UPDATE: I have it on good authority that the photo is a fake. While Code Pink has real signs with similar sentiments, someone mocked this one up to make a point. I think this post still stands, though, even if the photo isn't real. What do you think?]</b>

The prefered position I would have taken would be recognizing that the photo is not so much fake, as a pardoy of Code Pink's messages. So thus, the real evidence of Code Pink should be included along with the translation of Code Pink's message.

This is part of the art of propaganda where deception and manipulation is used to tell a truth. It is also part of rhetoric and charisma. A vital thing to politicians and what not.

Good propaganda would be,

<B>[UPDATE: I have it on good authority that the photo is not an actual Code Pink rally slogan and event. Yet it sounds so familiar that one might be fooled into thinking it. Here are the real Code Pink slogans, given that truth is always better than fabrication, even if the fabrication has been so artfully and accurately done.]

Using illusion to place more emphasis and attention on the truth is always a better thing than to use truth to place more emphasis on illusion. Dan Rather did the latter when he said it was fake but accurate. Meaning the truth that it was a fake, should and was used to emphasize the fakery.

Artists should use lies to tell the truth, not use truth to tell lies.

Plato thought the same thing of leaders in a Republic.

If we were really as bad as the opposition, DQ, Book would have deleted her first mistake and never mentioned it again.

Integrity and intellectual honesty does not, not even superficially, make you as bad as the opposition.

Oh, I've got to clarify something here. I'm not advocating the continued existence of the fake photograph. I'm just saying that my point about the problems of a Fifth Column continues to be a valid evidence. I'd set up that post using the faked photo (which I didn't realize was fake) as a springboard for my argument, I can make the same argument, though, without that faked photo, based on real evidence.

Thank you, Earl, for clarifying the confusion about my original correction to my post.

I'm with DQ, although the quote is "Fake, but accurate", I believe.....

While agreeing that the fake quote may accurately characterize Code Pink's positions, it MUST be taken down and replaced by something that Code Pink actually said themselves. Otherwise, we appear no better than the opposition......and the occurrence will be used anytime you say something they want to invalidate.

I found <a href="http://michellemalkin.com/2008/06/26/its-a-different-kind-of-patriotism-you-see/" rel="external" rel="nofollow">another example</a> of an identically thought-out banner at a Code Pink rally:

<blockquote>We support our troops when they shoot their officers.
</blockquote>
So, this isn't the false but accurate of George Bush, where the Left had no independent evidence at all that Bush tried to avoid his duties. They made it up out of whole cloth, and then claimed that the canard proved itself.

Here, the photoshop is indeed virtually indistinguishable from the real deal. Proving, as I've long thought, that the loony left is making satire and parody impossible.

One of my sons lives in the general area up there...he was listening to the radio on his way to work the other day when a caller to the show said that it was "wrong" that some Code Pinkers (I think) had been "protested" by other protesters. The host (apparently a conservative show) said : "yeah...almost makes you think that the government should have a bunch of people paid to protect their freedom of speech, doesn't it?' Yes, said the caller. "Someone who'd be willing to give their own life to defend that right of free speech"... Definitely, said the caller. "Yeah...we should have someone like that" responded the host, and the call ended.
My son was laughing the whole time he was telling me this....! I suspect he wasn't alone...but as someone commented somewhere, the liberal community doesn't get it. They must live some pretty miserable lives!

DQ,

What I meant is that, unlike Bush who hadn't at all avoided his service obligations, Code Pink has said precisely the same kind of things. This is a pithier version, but real quotations from <a href="http://www.zombietime.com/berkeley_marines_2-12-2008/" rel="external" rel="nofollow">the Code Pink sponsored picketing at the Berkeley Marine Recruiting station</a> are the same (some of these come from Code Pink, some from the fellow travelers they attract):

<blockquote>I support forced sterilization for Christian Fundamentalists.

Treason to the U.S. is loyalty to humanity.

F**k Conservative Neo-Nazis

U.S. Troops - A History of Shame

Support the Iraqi Resistance

Stop Bush's Death Pimps</blockquote>

The overarching truth -- which is that Code Pink truly believes that American troops are dangerous, murderous animals who should lose (which, for troops, means "die") -- is something that repetitively comes out of their own mouths.
