Incidents like this always make me think what a dopey move it was to do away with the draft (in the US). I think that it was the initial success in the campaign to emasculate the males of America, a campaign that continues to this day in our schools and colleges. If even 25 or 33% of the male population received military training, our society would have a reverse of trained people out and about and capable of dealing with emergencies to some extent.

A while back you wrote about those bystanders who did nothing after an elderly man was struck by a hit and run driver. In that instance, there was no danger at all to the bystanders, yet they were unwilling or unable to render any form of assistance. I would have a hard time believing that there were any veterans in that sorry group of individuals.
