Another thing that would be good to do is for local governments to apply intelligent signaling systems to their roads. I've seen estimates that expanding the use of computer-and-sensor-based traffic light systems would be worth up to 5% fuel savings, in addition to savings in time and irritation. A national initiative in this direction would be well worth considering. People like Pelosi, though, are interested in posturing and casting blame, not in solving problems.
