The rebellion ends

The rampaging Republican representatives left the House at the stroke of 5:00, presumably to forestall having the police escort them off the premises.  In terms of showmanship, I would have opted for the latter — “they were arrested to keep America strong” — but Republicans are so gosh darn law-abiding.  Perhaps something interesting will happen Monday.

There is no force of law that would allow anyone to remove members of the House from the House for any reason unless the Speaker and a majority, by vote, so ordered.

Of course, anything the Republicans said carries no weight under the House rules, but it did carry some weight in another fashion.

“Madam Speaker, since you left us no room to speak in session, the only chance we had to speak was when you were not here.”

That is a powerful message in and of itself.
