The media attacks we heard from her and others last night, however, have to stop. I found the following on AP wire, which highlights how the GOP wants it both ways. Hard to argue with this…

“The Republican message about the Palin offspring comes across as contradictory: Hey, media, leave those kids alone — so we can use them as we see fit.

“If you doubt this scenario, consider this: On Wednesday morning, a teenage boy from Alaska stood in a receiving line on an airport tarmac, being glad-handed by the potential next president of the United States — because he got his girlfriend pregnant. TV cameras were lined up in advance. The mind boggles.

“‘Either the children are out of bounds, and you don’t put them in the photo ops, or you don’t complain when somebody wants to talk about them. You can’t have it both ways,’ said John Matviko, a professor at West Liberty State College in West Virginia and editor of ‘The American President in Popular Culture.’

“‘Right now, it looks like they’re being used by the campaign more than the media are using them,’ he said.”

I have no doubt that Palin is earnestly trying to protect her daughter’s privacy, and I agree that the kids should be off-limits. But Palin, McCain and the GOP are not helping things. Nor are the Democrats. I wish that Obama’s teleconference stunt with his kids before the big screen hadn’t happened. And wheeling out a couple of teenage kids who clearly have hurt their life’s chances and engaged in what conservatives consider a moral no-no–all to bolster the PTA credentials of a self-styled “hockey mom”–really puts the Republican hypocrisy over the top.

I looked for the entire thing, too, and accept Noonan’s response. She doesnt think McCain is “over.”

That doesnt change the fact that she thinks Palin’s pick is “political bulls**t.” however, as this transcript shows (Obviously Peggy Noon = PN)

CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this — excuse me– political bullshit about narratives –

Peggy Noonan has claimed today that that’s not the flow of the conversation, that much was said that is not in the video before she uttered the words, “It’s over.”

My question is this: The youtube video opens with 20 seconds of Chuck Todd wrapping up the broadcast segment, going to a commercial. Then, at the 21 second mark, it *sounds* to me as if they have in fact, cut the audio, to remove all the leading conversation. And we immediately get – out of context – what Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan are saying.

Do you hear the same thing at the 21-second mark?

According to Noonan, Noonan and Murphy are discussing that the old-style Republican politics are over, and they are agreeing. The 21-second to 45-second marks are about old-style politics being over, not the McCain campaign being over.

Having read Peggy Noonan’s explanation of the context that was deliberately cut out of the audio, it makes sense.
