But it doesn’t explain the liberal media recoiling in fear and outrage at the rare example of right-wing excess, while excusing left-wing frequent excesses.

The explanations are simple. Republicans care about decency and obeying the law so producing examples of lawlessness forces the Republicans to convert much of their time and energy into defense and reform.

it is the same reason why Jihadists like to accuse the US of killing women and children since it forces the US to take time and effort away from Killing Jihadists to protecting themselves against such accusations. It is cause the US cares if they kill women and children while the jihadists don't. If we accused the JIhadists of killing women and children, their supporters will just shrug their shoulders and continue killing with a smile on their faces, Mike.

If we accused the Left of lying and deceiving people into killing others, the Left wouldn't care. But if they accused us of the same, we would be forced by our own standards of decency to look into whether such accusations have any truth.

This is the power of the attack, the power of offense, and the reason why violence is so extremely simple once broken down into such principles.

Just a side comment...

Isn't it interesting that in the eight years of conservative 'Clinton Derangement Syndrome', there were few cases of vandalism and screeching hatred being spewed directly at liberals?

But after eight years of 'Bush Derangement Syndrome' we have been seeing widespread examples of intolerance streaming at us constantly? The viciousness of many among our Hollywood elite, among our liberal "journalists", among feminists against Palin... so many of the instances are shocking! And the media view them with amusement or diffidence at best. Utterly dismissive at worst.

Now, at McCain rallies, you get a total of, I think, four objectionable comments, and suddenly the media are full of concern of a rising totalitarian response of rightwing hate and intolerance?

The truth is that conservatism remains grounded in its 50s resurgence, a period of time when ranting, raving and vandalism were sorely looked down upon.

The current round of liberalism is based solidly in the 60s counterrevolution, where to be authentic you had to be, at a minimum marching and shouting and being confrontational; and to be really authentic, you had to be taking over offices and holding people "hostage" until your demands were granted; setting fires and firebombs and other bombs guaranteed authenticity.

That is the reason why left-wing rage seems so acceptable, across the board, and right-wing rage seems so... odd and out of place. But it doesn't explain the liberal media recoiling in fear and outrage at the rare example of right-wing excess, while excusing left-wing frequent excesses. The Infamous Media Double Standard: Alive And Well!

>>Mr. Bookworm is surrounded. Sooner or later, Bookworm, you all will wear him down and he’ll join the dark side . . .>>

Nah. It's the liberal flower power generation thing...rebellion against his parents. Won't happen until they die and he no longer has anything to resist. Then maybe he'll start thinking without being influenced by the need to be separate - different - from his parents.

When your parents die, you re-think lots of things. That's when you really can't go home again...

that cars bearing McCain-Palin bumperstickers are targets of vandalism (keying, smashed windows, etc.).

There's a very simple solution to this. Just put a huge number of stickers on your car, drive your car to where you know such things happen, stake it out with a video camera in another car near it, and then when you capture the faces of the people damaging your property just go out and break their legs and arms if they can't run away fast enough.
