Flunking the test

Big Lizard, rather than just looking at the obvious message in Biden’s “faux pas” about Obama’s international crisis chops (or lack thereof), took the time to go into the Way Back machine and find out just which particular crisis Biden meant — and it ain’t good folks.

I dunno… Biden’s comments about “an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy” just doesn’t seem to match to a failed conference with some dictator.

And the subsequent plea for Obama supporters to stick with their guy, even in the face of falling poll numbers and popularity… it doesn’t seem to match to any outcome of such a conference. No conference outcome – neither an appeasing speech nor a fiery speech by Obama – seems to match this.

Given the unpopularity of the Iraq War right now (approx 62% dislike for it) even in the face of massive Surge success… I still think we’re looking at a military action of some sort by another country that puts Obama squarely on the spot. Were Obama to then massively intervene militarily, tht would be wildly unpopular with Obama supporters. Hence the Biden plea?

In any case, here’s hoping this is all just wool-gathering over a concern about a presidential candidate who didn’t become the President.

    Headline: McCain Defeats Obama!

(As usual polls are ALL over the place, and I continue to believe pollsters are not able to catch the zeitgeist this year. I believe McCain support is significantly underrepresented. If the McCain/Palin campaign can keep hitting Obama successfully for two more weeks… I just contributed a little money to Murtha’s opponent in PA. Never did anything like that before.)

Despite Biden’s alleged foreign policy experience, I doubt he even remembers Kennedy’s meeting with Nikita. I agree with Mike, Biden’s referring to a major event, possibly force, but not necessarily so. The Russians are chess players, and Obama and Co. are not. A mutual defense pack between Kenya, Somalia, and Russia, and another between Venezuela and Russia would give the Putin bases on the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean.
The real problem will be when Obama’s dismantling of the security apparatus Bush created allows the Islamofascits to successfully hit the US again. And it won’t just a dirty bomb.
But, with any luck, BO has already overplayed his hand, and the Gods will sweep him into the history books.

    Addendum,
Sorry. I also am donating to William Russell’s campaign, Murtha’s Repubican opponent. His district is in western Pennsylvania, I believe. I’m suggesting to the McCain people that they pair Palin and Russell for a day. That would create news in western PA, Ohio, and West Virginia, and might visit collateral damage on BO’s operations. If the rest of us made similar suggestions, it might happen.

It seems to me that Biden knows something from security reports he’s seeing or being told about. Perhaps Iran is going to hit Israel, or Russia will move into Ukraine……

But what O’biden is saying to his supporters is: “You aren’t going to like our response to this, but just realize it’s something we have to do.”

In other words, Obama is going to react militarilly to prove that he isn’t the Caspar Milquetoast he truly is. This will cause the Angry Left to go even further into the Cave of Moonbattiness, right along with a few people at the New York Slimes, WaPo, BoGlo, NPR, MoonbatSNBC, and the rest.

That’s not actually a bad prediction, McLaren. The problem is that it, like the other predictions, are guesses. How much smarter just to elect McCain in the first place!

  6. on 22 Oct 2008 at 7:29 am McLaren

But, but Bookworm…..we have to elect Obama. We must lower the seas, we must stop the droughts, we must end crime forever, we must get rid of oil, we must bring world peace — if only everybody would understand the Dali Bama is the Christened One. He knows what is right and good. It is through Him that mankind will finally respect each other in peace and harmony. Yes, some sacrifices will have to be made, but with Him as our guide, He will teach us what we need and don’t need. The Jews will finally agree to stop warring against the innocent children of Hezbollah and Hamas. If we open our minds to His teachings, we might be like his tribal cousin, Raila Odinga. Sharia is better for all of us, as He will make clear. Once all of us have given ourselves over to His will, there will be peace. For Islam is the only faith, and Muhammed is its prophet. Oh, and milk will cost less too. I forgot about that one.

    From “Desiderata”

But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and desperation.

I used to worship that poem back in my liberal days before 9-11. I still admire much of it. But a poem that contains the line, “You are a child of the Universe. No less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here.”…

No LESS than the trees and the stars? No LESS?!?!

  8. on 22 Oct 2008 at 8:12 am McLaren

Well sure, Mike. DIdn’t you get the memo? We all need to die to save Earth. Only after we all perish will Ghia be in balance once more.

  9. on 22 Oct 2008 at 9:06 am suek

I’ve read elsewhere that the “you won’t like it” means that Obama will reinstitute the draft – including women. We all have to give service, don’tcha know…

All you fine people are being facetious this morning I see.BW we’ve had some snow here in CNY. Lot’s of rain also but it might clear a bit.

I have always agreed with McLaren on Biden’s intent. Look at the audience he was speaking to when he said “you are not going to like our response. . .”.

Rush Limbaugh and others turn it inside out, because that fits their narrative. I really expected Biden to rush out and clarify that part of his statement; but I guess the campaign gurus are afraid he would only do more damage if he opened his mouth. Probably wise of them.

So, the Big Lizard said,”Obama’s own running mate predicts that within six months of his inauguration, BO will face a “world test” like the Kennedy-Khrushchev summit of June, 1961… and that Obama will flunk it exactly the way Kennedy did.”

    Do what?

Biden said,’”And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you – not financially to help him – we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”

He meant the Americans (who have elected Obama, if the scenario plays out) should not second guess Obama or themselves (in having chosen him as POTUS). Sometimes things that “appear” one way at first turn out to be quite another in the long run. Obama CAN withstand the pressure but needs Americans to stand by him.

Remember the Obama slogan “‘I’M ASHING YOU TO BELIEVE.. Not just in my ability to change Washington . . . I’m asking you to believe in yours.” See http://www.barackobama.com/index.php

Well, Joe Biden is expanding on this. Not only will Obama face a test (or McCain, if elected), but so will the American people. The new POTUS and America will be tested.

    oops, ASKING

  14. on 22 Oct 2008 at 12:47 pm McLaren

So when Hezbollah releases their forces upon the American people, and Obama is forced to declare martial law (the way Bush has supposedly done since day 1) we are expected to support him? Will you support martial law if it’s declared necessary by Barry?

  15. on 22 Oct 2008 at 1:41 pm Mike Devx

    Helen,

Yours is a very good explanation of what Joe Biden *should* have said. But that’s not what he said.

You’re a generous person. But this level of generosity in your interpretation of Biden probably exceeds decorum. You’re “pulling an Obama”, because Biden makes it explicitly clear that the youth and inexperience of the 47-year old “brilliant” Senator is what will cause an unknown foreign entity to trigger an international crisis to test the Senator. And to mention McCain is disingenous of you. Biden never mentioned McCain nor any other potential leader.

(By “pulling an Obama”, I’m referring to the desperate parsing of a sentence or series of sentences, to make the clear intent of the meaning of the sentence end up meaning something completely different. It depends on what the meaning of the word “is” is. And what the candidate is “up” to, by which I don’t mean, a positive direction.)

Apparently that wasn’t a gaffe…it’s the second time he’s said the same thing. Maybe he said exactly what he meant.

  17. on 22 Oct 2008 at 2:16 pm McLaren

Perhaps we are about to get drafted:

    Barack Obama:

But it’s also important that a president speaks to military service as an obligation not just of some, but of many. You know, I traveled, obviously, a lot over the last 19 months. And if you go to small towns, throughout the Midwest or the Southwest or the South, every town has tons of young people who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s not always the case in other parts of the country, in more urban centers. And I think it’s important for the president to say, this is an important obligation. If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some.

This just might send the liberal fascists over the deep end.

  18. on 22 Oct 2008 at 2:32 pm suek

    >>If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some.>>

    Heh.

They better get this one out there quick…sounds like the perfect McCain ad to me!

If Obama is elected, as I suspect he will be, then parsing the utterances of Babblefish Joe is going to be a continual and onerous task. The guy is a crossbreed of the Oracle at Delphi and a used car salesman. I’m not sure too much significance should be read into this particular soundbite. What he may have been trying to communicate to the Assembled Faithful is that in the event of (inevitable) provocation the Obamanian response will be more hawk-like than dove-like, perhaps even reminiscent of the Dreaded Bush in its cracking of U.S. muscle, which will shock and appall the Democrat base, testing their progressive faith, eliciting spasms of betrayal and recrimination. After all, Obama was willing to toss old mentors like Rev Wright over the side like ballast in order to steer past the shoals. You think he wouldn’t do the same on a larger scale?

  20. on 22 Oct 2008 at 3:19 pm Ymarsakar

The Cuban Missile Crisis is what comes to mind when Biden mentions Kennedy.

Like I predicted, Obama will the second Democrat to use an atomic device on a target with civilians in it.

  21. on 22 Oct 2008 at 3:40 pm Zhombre

That wouldn’t surprise me. Eisenhower, the first Republican elected since the New Deal, did not dismantle the New Deal. LBJ defeated the ‘warmonger’ Goldwater and then took us to war. The old Cold Warrior Nixon went to China. Reagan did not make government smaller and actually created a new Cabinet level department. Clinton signed off on welfare reform. Once in office, men elected President often do not do what you expect they will do. Funny old world, ain’t it?

RE: “The guy is a crossbreed of the Oracle at Delphi and a used car salesman.”

Is it a sin to say, I wish I’d written that?

  24. on 23 Oct 2008 at 6:15 am McLaren

Ymar, let’s hope it’s more of the Cuban Missile Crisis flavor than the Bay of Pigs.

  25. on 23 Oct 2008 at 8:03 am suek

    >>Is it a sin to say, I wish I’d written that?>>

Nah. Call it art appreciation. We’d all love to be able to paint like daVinci, no?

Of course, it _was_ written about the Messiah…maybe a _little_ sin!
