Ch-ch-changes at the Watcher’s Council

I’m very pleased to announce that the Watcher’s Council has gained two new members: Mere Rhetoric and The Provocateur. Having visited their sites and read their posts, I can assure you that our weekly submissions will be more scintillating and informative than ever.

Book:
One day in 1969 on a hill in Berkeley, stoked by God-knows-what chemical compound, I took on the totemic name of “Elegant Freddie Weasel.”
It was kind of like the olden days when a Miwok with a name like “Egg Dropped from Crow’s Nest” might go out on a spirit journey and come back with his real name, “Rocky Mountain Oyster.”
My girlfriend at the time, who is now my wife, took on the name “Ethel Marmot.”
I’m telling you this because I want you to know how grateful I am that the Watcher’s Council, aka Watcher of Weasels, is looking out for me.
I was at Berkeley a decade later than you, CM, right after “Animal House” rampaged through the nation’s movie theaters. In my era, people took on the totemic names of Buffy and Thad. (I was not in a sorority, so am chagrined to admit that I’ve never had an animal name until I denoted myself as a Bookworm. Perhaps there’s something to be said for waiting.)
But I can assure you, CM, we will watch out for you.
bbbbbut…what’s happened to Wolf?
(ok – new blogs are welcome. A number of my “regulars” are either taking a hiatus or say they’re burned out and won’t be blogging any more now that the push of the election is over. I suspect they’ll be back, but for now, they’ve gone dark)
Wolf was having technical difficulties, and should be back in full blogging mode very, very soon.
