Moral depravity

What’s amazing is that the Progressives, those who tout themselves as the most humanitarianly sensitive people in the history of the world, urge Israel and America to shuck off their Zionist imposed binders and get friendly with these people.

Hezbollah, the other Lebanese entities, and Syria all know, with complete certainty, they are in a war with no rules, and they cheer with wild abandon the man who would kill the father and then dash the child’s head against the rock.

Israel knows, with complete certainty, that they are… um, that they are… er, that they are…

A friend of mine, a wonderful, soft-spoken fellow, was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1942. One of his earliest memories is of American soldiers lifting him up to give him a ride on a tank and bestow some chewing gum on him.

He emigrated to the U.S. as a teen and never looked back. Because he’s German-born, and his father was an unrepentant crypto-Nazi until the end of his life, my friend more than most Americans should know the lessons that were to be learned from the Nazis.

    Or not.

In a recent discussion where I defended Bush’s “big stick” diplomacy, he couldn’t understand my contempt for Obama’s offer to sit down without preconditions to talk to the likes of Fidel, Hugo, Akmanutjob, Kim and Putin.

“How could it hurt?” he asked.

“Well,” I answered, “what would Obama say to them? The only thing he could say is, ‘What will it take for us to show you that we earnestly want peace with you?'” (Host of concessions follow here.)

My friend wasn’t going for it. He said that since we’re all human, we all have more in common than not. Surely we can speak to those commonalities?

“OK, Arnt.” I said. “Pretend that you are a Jew and that I am a Nazi. What commonality between us is going to prevent me from pulling out my gun right now and blasting your head off?”

He said my example was “too extreme.”

I said,”Too extreme exists everywhere in abundance and it’s the refusal of nice people like you to recognize it that allows it to go on.”

Apparently my response was too extreme, and it ended the conversation. We continued on to salmon recipes (he lives in Seattle).

When it comes to the Arab (the palestinians Fatah and Hamas, along with Hezbolla in particular) response to Israel, they have idolized a culture of death. It is only natural that they will accept depravity as a necessity toward their celebrity killers.

You need to act with more moderation and with less of a tendency to violent impulses and language, Charles. If you emulate my example, it will do you good with such peeps.

Olmert knows that so long as it is other people’s children dying, he has done a “good job” as PM.
