The Obama fox trot begins

Forward and back he goes, depending on which way the focus group blows.  Before being elected, Obama promised to close Gitmo.  Then, with the reins of power almost in his hands, he panicked and backed off from the promise.   Then panic instantly set in again when his focus groups showed that his core constituencies were displeased.  Swaying back and forth in the prevailing political breezes (always graceful in the eyes of a sycophantic press) Obama now declares that Gitmo is to be closed immediately, despite the fact that the incoming administration admittedly has no idea what to do with the 200 hardened fighters held there:

President-elect Barack Obama is to issue an order to close the Guantánamo detention centre in his first week in office, according to his advisers.

[snip]

There is no consensus yet on what to do with them. Some will be released, and some could be transferred to other countries, while the remainder could face trial on the US mainland.

A few predictions:  At least some of the dudes released will sue.  A significant percentage will find ways to return to their chosen battlefields (Afghani mountain ranges, airplanes, shopping malls, etc.) to kill again.  And all will complain that they’re feeling helpless without free Korans and halal food, all of which were provided at taxpayer expenses in Gitmo.

With Obama, we’re not getting leadership, we’re getting followership — which is fine when the lady is dancing, but scary when we’re watching the President of the United States in terpsichorian action.

Look on the bright side…with all his swaying back and forth, it might be a new source of energy or just a lot of wind.

I am trying hard to accept the results of the election and be open toward the President-Elect but I have every expectation that my open mind will be foreclosed very quickly. Perhaps the Silver Surfer has been elected President; a guy who will skim every wave. Until this happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkYSDYDc8mE

If you ever get a chance to see the wonderful 1938 Errol Flynn version of “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” keep your eyes open for Melville Cooper, a talented character actor who plays the High Sheriff of Nottingham.

Cooper’s sheriff is an arrogant dandy who assures everybody constantly that he stands ready to smite Robin and any other evildoers — if they will only show their faces. Of course, every time danger looks imminent, even as he reaches for his sword the sheriff busily eyes the exits.

Gosh, I lost my train of thought. . .

Why the hell am I talking about Melville Cooper on a thread about Obama?

He could just release them into San Francisco, a sanctuary city.

    Danny:

Excellent suggestion. Maybe Mr. Bramill has room at his home.

    Where is the suggestion box?

The long and the short of it is that we’re screwed!

Time to head for he tall grass and lie low for a while….don’t expose yourself in any way that can be avoided. Live someplace that doesn’t attract negative attention, where you can cultivate a little plot of land, and hope for the best.

Buy seed and put it in the freezer, have a generator backup that runs on multiple fuels, lay in some long-lasting dried and canned food. Be sure of your water supply.

It could get really ugly, folks….and I don’t think the people taking over in Washington have learned much from the last 10-15 years, and they apparently lack the imagination needed to see what loosing the “Gitmo 200″ could lead to.

    Oy!

Perhaps Obama should consider out loud a Swift-like proposal: He could follow the precedent of that great leftist, freedom fighter hero, Che, on dealing with prisoners held in Cuba.

    Earl #6,
    >> Time to head for he tall grass and lie low for a while….don’t expose yourself in any way that can be avoided. >>

I have been thinking about this for awhile. How much safety and security do I need… which will cause me to keep my mouth shut how much?

We have already seen some significant signs of oppression by Obama’s lefties against those who speak out on the other side. They feel quite justified in harming your life in many ways. Sometimes via vandalism, sometimes via lost jobs or lost opportunities.

Watch your communities, watch the liberals around you, watch for harm. If you find it happening, you may want to do as Earl suggests, and fade from view, become a part of the bland wallpaper for a few years. Go anonymous on blogs, etc.

It depends. If the economic downturn gets as severe as it might, due to socialist policies run amok, safety and security might be the better option than feeling free to speak your mind. Never forget what Woodrow Wilson and his ilk did to those protesting his American fascism (and never forget what he and his ilk did to the American suffragettes, too). Wilson was a terrible man. We will see about Obama.

Good points, Mike….although I was thinking more about the Islamists’ next foray into bringing jihad to the U.S……possibly including some of the fellows that Obama plans to release from Guantanamo Bay.

I simply don’t want to be close to where ANY of the next “events” are likely to occur — partly in order to miss out on the mayhem, and ALSO to avoid the chaos that will surely follow. It’s not going to be nice in the urban areas if the worst happens.

We plan to be in the eastern part of a western state, where things are somewhat rural, and the population is a bit “country” and we can expect there to be significant “community” in hard times. Growing at least some of our own food, hunting some as well, and sharing with good neighbors.

Of course, this will also help to shield us from the kinds of things you are talking about, and I am fully convinced that your appraisal of the situation is a realistic one.

As I said, I expect it to get ugly in a number of ways. Think about it, and prepare as best you can.

    BINGO!!

    From Instapundit:
    http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/2009/01/13/catch-and-release-2/

Pentagon: 61 of those freed from Club Gitmo are back on the battlefield.

Take proper precautions to protect yourself and those you love.

    Sound like semi Gulchers.

It’s a day to celebrate when freedom fighters strike a blow for liberty and equality!
