Jacko:

Laugh at what? If at Obama, we see your point--obviously. Otherwise, what IS your point?

WHO IS THAT PORTIA??? She is absolutely fascinating!

Indeed. David Weber published Off Armageddon Reef at Tor and the Honor Harrington series at Baen. I recommend you read some of the Honor Harrington series, since it eerily replicates some of what has been going on in American politics since 9/11.

The political insights and human insights are also topnotch: a really good trainer on human reactions and motivations and how to manipulate/defend against them.

Charles -

You are hilarious. I love the line about leftists not having a substitute god.

On a serious note, though, I'm starting to suspect something that even a week ago I simply would not have believed. I think that people like Stewart, Colbert, and others are going to have to start making fun of Obama fairly quickly because their careers depend on it. And, as you so astutely noted, it is their nature.

These people also know that the best humor, the humor that keeps them on top, must include humor based on truth.

I also suspect that there still are people deep within the MSM who know in their hearts that they have a duty to do. It will be painful, timid, and slow but it will start with little questions being asked about Obama and his administration . . . questions that won't be answered sufficiently.

This will lead to a very loud and adamant defense of Obama by the left but quietly, we will start to see concern and even frustration.

Millions and millions of people who supported Obama did so publicly. They put their all into ensuring that this man became president: their money, their time, and their credibility (for whatever that is worth). These people are NOT going to take being made fools of lightly.

All of which makes me even MORE concerned about America. Obama is probably overwhelmed with the reality in which he now finds himself. The PDBs must be scaring the pants off him and now, for the first time in his life, people are really watching him and are going to hold him accountable for ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISHING SOMETHING (imagine that!).

Obama is a smart man. He knows he can't alienate his base if he hopes to be re-elected. Hell hath no fury like a scorned leftist. And yet there is this pressing reality that must be addressed. So instead of doing what is best for America, this man is going to spend his time and energies trying to find a way to be all things to all people.

It won't work. The question then is: who will be shorted?

Link

Read that comment stream between Scottie, Deana, Portia, and I suggest you ignore the entire comment branch starting with the name "Chris White". It is just a huge distraction.

The conversation Scottie started is what I would term "infernally good". And my standards are pretty high, these days at least.

I'll actually devote the time and effort to write a thorough post about this, complete with the highlights and the the re-posting of their comments. That's how important and captivating I found the material they covered.

When I try to watch the Jon Stewart video above, I get a message telling me that because I am in Canada I must go to Comedy Central to watch this video ( first time this has ever happened to me... )

So I did and I had to watch the whole 15:20 seconds of it because I did not know at what time the good part was to be found,

and... sorry to rain on your parade but...

the first 11 minutes of it are all about bashing Republicans... Stewart makes fun of Bush, of Cheney being in a wheel chair... et cetera...

Yes the last 4 minutes are definitely great,
but two thirds of the 15 minutes video are about bashing the right...
which should ensure Stewart will keep his job...
you know because bashing the right twice as much as the left is "fair and balanced" ...

Charles: To analogize Stewart to the scorpion is, I believe, the perfect analogy. Because his humor trends to nihilism, he'll keep doing what he does, even if it bounces back against him. That's his nature. It will be amusing, though, for those of us not in thrall to Obamagic to watch Stewart have at it until his media masters cut him off.

About hope and change...

They say Obama has the power to inspire?

the left says they are the ones who care about the planet... while we on the right don't?

Well how come Obama did not have the power to inspire his worshipers to not litter the "historical" site as if it was a dump? THIS IS A MUST SEE VIDEO!

Such hypocrisy from the left, they litter the "historical" site as if it was a dump...
