At Power Line, there is an extremely interesting post examining the way in which Obama views Lincoln. I would sum it up has saying that Obama’s view of Lincoln falls into two neat categories: First, it is entirely informed by the Leftist scholarship that tore Lincoln to pieces in the past few years as a rather unprincipled racist who nevertheless got the job done. Second, it is shaped by Obama’s own view of himself. Lincoln made Obama possible, Lincoln’s good views are Obama’s good views, and Lincoln would approve of Obama’s approach to government. And why is this so? Because Obama says it’s so.
