Watcher’s results — better late than never

It took me long enough, didn’t it?  But you don’t need to wait any more.  I’ve finally got the results for last week’s vote at the Watcher’s Council.  As always, I had a hard time voting, since everything impressed me.

Im glad to see someone on the Council nominated ‘The Sundries Shack’ for “A Tale of Two CPACS”, and that it tied for 3rd Place.

I used to enjoy Rick Moran’s ‘Right Wing Nuthouse’. But he’s declared war on social conservatives and intends to mute them within the conservative movement; Mr. Moran considers social conservates to be bigoted, intolerant, anti-gay, anti-immigrant, xenophobic, etc; an anvil tied to the feet of conservatism, dooming conservatives to defeat forever.

He couldn’t be more wrong. We haven’t had a conservative Presidential candidate since Reagan. They’ve all been moderate Republicans of one form or another.

I’d rather have a conservative candidate and President who occasionally compromises with moderates than a moderate candidate and President who occasionally does something conservative (and whom we have to actually oppose far too often, a la Harriet Miers’ nomination to the Supreme Court, a la amnesty for twenty million illegal immigrants, a la the nationalization of investment firms and banks…)

Rick Moran himself has called this a war within conservatism. I’m glad to see other, far more powerful voices than mine beginning to rise in defense of the social conservatives by criticizing Mr. Moran.
