Remember Book’s post about 2-3 weeks ago about a college professor giving everybody the same grade? It was apparently an urban legend, but the YAF college students ran with it. Dr.Sanity has a good post on the indoctrination process, with a video done by YAFers approaching other students about the possibility of “averaging” grades. If I knew how to link to an imbedded video, I would, but I don’t, so the link is to the article. Very humorous – in a sad way. This is the caliber of student that our colleges are turning out?

As I said, I checked out the director’s movie making history and career. Nothing ideological or even Leftist was found. He was one of the new directors, of course, so he may have been free of the moral decadence taint of a George Lucas or any number of wannabe Communists in Hollywood.

Your take probably explains why I didn’t feel manipulated. Sort of like the old days of watching the news when it was reported not contorted.

Sadie, Blackfive mentioned it some months ago. There was some talk about whether this was another attempt at psychological and emotional manipulation. Matt from B5 got some letters from soldiers on the issue and they seemed upbeat, but the film hadn’t been screened. So I went and did a small background check on the director, even grabbed one of the movies he made, a movie something about two people in Japan with time to burn. Very quirk, but not anti-war nor ideological nor even particularly tingling on my propaganda defense monitors. Meaning, I saw no overt attempts to manipulate me towards a certain ideology nor even a specific emotional reaction.

And I’m very very vigilant about external factors concerning what I am personally feeling. I have to be, after getting hit by the Main Sewer Media’s enemy propaganda for the last few years. Too much shock and awe and you either shut down (as most of America did concerning Iraq) or you learn how to adapt.

Anyways, when the movie came out, the verdict on B5 from the people that saw it, including the family of Chance, was an A plus. The family felt good, the soldiers felt good, Matt felt, and that was that. Mostly.

I stumbled upon the film on a sleepless night some weeks ago on cable and was moved to tears. Something about the cadence, the pace, the silence the commitment all came together in a very moving storyline.
