>> There’s no reason for the Left to pay serious attention when they are spending other people’s fortunes and lives, Book.

I'll just leave a repeat of an old and common comment:
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

If we're going to go with an all-powerful central national government, intent on controlling every aspect of our public and private lives, we ought to quit fooling around and return to a hereditary King. At least that way, every so often, we'll get lucky with a wise and noble leader. This way, all we're going to get is corruption.

Ooops, gotta run. The Obama Health Care Auditor is at my door. Since we're all forced to participate in national health care now, he's taking my biannual readings to ensure I'm doing my part with Keeping Healthy For America.

Steven Den Beste

Bill Whittle

Road to Serfdom author

Steven Smith of Gates of Fire

For leaders, Sarah Palin.

1. natural charisma and political instincts that were not bred in 20 years of Life Senate Membership in DC. Contrast with McCain, Specter, Ted Splash Kennedy, PillowC, Reid, and Obama.

2. Foreign policy, one word. Bush. Bush had zero foreign policy experience or intentions. He got hit by 9/11. Character carried him through and with the rest of us as well. Oil hampered him, as well as a lack of ruthlessness. I'd choose character over the foreign "expertise" of just about anybody in politics, State or no State.

3. Strength. She is the epitomy of what frontierswomen are and what true equality for the sexes mean. It does not mean leveling the playing field, it means teamwork in overcoming any playing field, however uneven. It does not mean DC giving you a hand out and allowing you to be "treated equally". It means seizing the power and the respect for yourself, not because someone gave it to you, but because you earned it with will, sacrifice, work, and ruthlessness.

4. Killing. I don't tend to trust people that have not duly given consideration to death, its ramifications, and the consequences of causing death. Bush learned this on the job, but it would have helped if he learned it earlier. Much of this is why military experience is a bonus for the Presidency, he who has to order others to their deaths. It is very likely that such people that have ignored death will bend when confronted with it. Sarah's focus on guns and hunting in the frontiers of Alaska mitigates this aspect of human weakness.

5. Terrorists attack us by exploiting our weaknesses. They don't attack us because we have weaknesses. They don't attack us because we are more prosperous than they will ever be under Islam. They don't attack us because we are a strong nation that respects human rights and liberties. Those are just the things that make us easily killed. No, they attack us because they need to destroy us for our very existence threatens their own. Democrats operate the same with, and Sarah Palin is just a convenient excuse for Democrat atrocities on the battlefield. Do people seriously believe that AQ cares about civilian casualties or people they blow up in the market place? yet they pretend to care, they pretend that this justifies their attacks and atrocities on Americans. They pretend, just as the Demoncrats pretend. But a weakness is only a weakness if you act like it is. Sun Tzu has already covered this aspect.

The Left has reduced this subject to one of the utmost frivolity
