Don’t get lost on the way to the Anchoress’s new web home *UPDATED*

If you’re a fan of the Anchoress, you may have noted that she’s been a bit hard to find lately. Rather than having an independent blog, as she once did, she now blogs at First Things, which I see as the Catholic equivalent to Commentary Magazine. One is a conservative publication with a Jewish twist; the other is a conservative publication with a Catholic twist. From her on out, you can find the Anchoress’s work here.
Despite her new setting (which I find visually more appealing than her old blog), she’s still the Anchoress: well-informed, an elegant writer, funny (when it’s appropriate), with both a deep morality and a humanist streak that are the underpinnings of everything she writes. If you don’t visit her regularly, you are missing out on some of the best that the conservative blogosphere (or the entire blogosphere, for that matter) has to offer.
UPDATE: My friend Earl thinks I’m selling short First Thing’s breadth. He describes the magazine, to which he’s subscribed for more than 20 years, as “ecumenical.” That sounds good to me.

She had a particularly good piece on the shooting at the Holocaust Museum, if anyone hasn’t seen it yet.
The bitter irony of it all in the Holocaust Museum. William Cohen, former Sec’y of Defense, was a witness to it all while waiting for his wife, Janet, who has written a play called Anne & Emmett. I believe the play was to open that very evening.
By the way, her play portrays imaginary conversation between Holocaust victim Anne Frank and Emmett Till, a young black man who was lynched in the ’50s in Mississippi. Janet Cohen is Black and William Cohen’s father was Jewish.
I mention all of this because I started to wonder if the ‘animal with the rifle’ had this information and with his past history, who were his targets.
If he _had_ targets. It’s my observation that whatever men are in their younger years, as they age they become more so.
It happens that yesterday I ended up watching a bit of Shep, and he had a telephone interview with the divorced second wife of the shooter. From what I heard, she was married to him for about 10 years, and divorced him when he was about 60. That would be the years when he would tend to become “focused”, I think. She said she divorced him because of his “ideas”, but couldn’t remember much because “it was so long ago”. There was no mention of children. If you assume that he retired about age 65, had no wife after that, had no children…you come up with a man spending too much time alone with too much time to think. In other words, I think he went off his rocker to some extent, and he was apparently a bit off his rocker very early in his life. It just got “concentrated”. I don’t think he needed a target. If he’d killed someone significant, that would have been great, but I think he’d reached the point where he just needed to do _something_ about his hate before he died. And if he died, so what? He only had a few years left anyway.
I think it’s hard to stay balanced when you spend too much time alone. Add to that the possibilities of some senility and you have a sorry situation.
Well, if you define the man as mentally unbalanced and dangerous because his perception of reality and what was true, was in fact no real or true, then this very definition must necessarily apply to the great majority of Democrat voters.
nd a humanist streak that are the underpinnings of everything she writes.
But Book, I thought only the Sublimely Enlightened Left and their Democrat minions could be a humanist? Was I edumacated wrong here?

Heh. And many are alone and don’t have children. Yikes! We may have a bunch of dangerous nuts in their old age! Good thing they’re so against gun ownership! Maybe euthanasia isn’t such a bad thing after all…!!
