Hey Mike...

Screw worms aren't so bad...as long as you get to them in time. They used to be a problem in the US, but aren't so much any more. The problem with them in the middle east is because they don't dock the tails of their sheep, and various feeds then cause accumulation of fecal material under the tails, which invites fly strike. A friend of mine had a mare with a serious cut in her knee. I brought her in to clean it up and WOW! As soon as warm water hit it, it started waving at me! Called the vet, he diagnosed over the phone and sent me to the store for some remedy or other - basically something like a zinc ointment to spread on the open sore. Putting an ointment on the cut prevented air from getting in, and that drove the screw worms out I expected her to have a monster scar, but in fact, she had practically none. It seems that the fly larvae normally consume dead tissue and have actually been used to clean out damaged tissue - within living memory! It seems that the army doctors noticed that soldiers that were infested by maggots due to time spent outside while injured actually had less problems with scar tissue build up.(Korean War period, I think) They investigated the cause, and found that they could introduce maggots to control scar tissue. Of course, the trick is to also get them out again before they do real damage.

Check out "warbles" if you want another gross critter.

Ymar #14 is a must read.

When population ratios are taken into account, racist murder of non-Whites against Whites compared to Whites against non-Whites is pegged at 34:1. Yet the media publicizes only White-based crimes. One can assume this is because white people are simply intrinsically guiltier.

There may be one flaw in the article that may ameliorate these statistics. That is the ratio of crime itself committed by Whites as compared to that committed by non-Whites. Should that ratio also be high, then what we have is not a shockingly high ratio of 34:1 of racist murders, but rather simply a shockingly high ratio of crime itself. And that has long been explained (at least on the left) as a socio-economic problem, presumably because poor people commit more crimes, and minorities are far worse off economically. So some stats may be absent.

Ymar, that is one nasty worm!

Go to this pictures link at the bottom of Ymar's link:
http://www.icb.usp.br/~marcelcp/Cochliomyia.htm

Click on the pics to enlarge. The enlarged picture of developmental larvae feeding in the open wound:
http://icb.usp.br/~marcelcp/Imagens/musc22.jpg

(That's an open wound that the larvae themselves enlarge, that might have begun as small as a tick bite. And the adult for these things - looks like your average fly - can travel 125 miles in the air before remating.)

Yikes!

I can agree the Hamas and Hezbollah are comparable... and what about that group of delightful brothers of the bride-to-be in Pakistan. Her husband was one of the 3% of the population that is Christian. They confronted him when they caught the couple in a compromising situation. He agreed to their demand to marry her but not their demand to convert to Islam. So they took him to an isolated farmhouse, raped him repeatedly and tortured him, then stabbed him to death. Worms indeed. At last report, the authorities in Pakistan are doing nothing.

Greetings:

I can certainly agree that Prime Minister Netanyahu's approach not without craft.

The point that I failed to make explicit is that I don't believe that the "Palestinians" have any fear of loss; that whatever they gain is theirs forever due to the Israel's and the West's commitment to honest dealing which they do not share to any significant degree.

Part of the "Jordanian" stratagem is to create some sense of fear about the future not only in the "Palestinians" but also in the Jordanians and Egyptians. These are the lands of "I against my brother; my brother and I against our cousin; and, my cousin, my brother and I against the stranger. If some sense of wonder can be installed in Amman and Cairo about what may be coming across their borders, the joy of Middle East living is better shared and, perhaps, those two countries may see their interests better served by their joining in on the "Enough, already" to the Palestinian kleptocracies.

I grew up in a section of the Bronx where part of the folk-wisdom was, "You don't want to fight anyone twice." Going for the jugular was pretty much expected by all. The Israelis have gone too many rounds with the "Palestinians" and their fellow travellers. My understanding is that after WWII, the Germans were expelled from the Sudetenland. Things have been pretty quiet there ever since. "Take it, or you're leaving" looks like a pretty good PowerPoint slide to me.

ERRATA: I still can't believe this, but I blew the Vince Lombardi quote; it should
have been "a good offense" vice "a could offsense."

Thanks for the Gloria Gaynor. Chills like no others.

You're point is a good one, 11B40. The problem, though, is that Obama left Bibi almost no room to maneuver. Obama's left/right punches were damned if you do/damned if you don't. I think Bibi did the only thing he could do. He slipped right under Obama's guard, got into the Palestinians' and Obama's face and said, "Okay, we'll do it, but we have one vital precondition." The beauty of Bibi's approach is that the precondition, which sounds so simple to those in the West, is the one thing the Palestinians cannot make themselves do. They're already screaming about Bibi's unfair demands but, when you think about it, all that he demanded was that they stop killing Jews. Bibi now has Obama in a grappler's hold, and the next move is not only Obama's, but is a move that will not make Obama look good.

(Sorry for all the fight metaphors, but I did a lot of martial arts today.)

Greetings:

Back in my infantry days, there was a bit of folk-wisdom that went, "It's better to have a soldier as a diplomat than a diplomat as a soldier. Also, somewhere along the way, I picked up the story about the farmer, the mule and the 2x4, the last being to get the mule's attention.

My disappointment with Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech is that he didn't use the opportunity to re-set the battlefield or, at least, the negotiating table. I would have preferred that he say the "two-state" solution is at hand; it's Israel, west of the river and Jordan east of it.

Back during the League of Nations Mandate days, there was no Jordan, as a state, and no Jordanian people. There were mostly Arab Muslims, living in primarily in tribal cultures vs. nation states, in the Palestine area of the Ottoman Empire.

For over a generation, I have been watching the Israelis trying to come to some kind of peace with the "Palestinians". Forgive me, but I can no longer convince myself that the political leaders of the Arabs of the area really want a state as a prime objective. I now believe that they are content to continue to take slices from the Israeli (Jewish, kosher) salami and billions from the Western democracies and whatever they can get from their Arab cousins.

Thus, I think that the time has come for the Israelis to say, "Enough, already." If you want to live in an Arab Muslim cesspool state, "Muslim, row your boat across the river." If you want to live in peace in a democratic Jewish state that is your choice. The Arabs drove most of the Jews out of their countries. I think that the Israelis should offer to return the favor.

As Vince Lombardi, the famous NFL football coach is purported to have said, "The best defense is a could offense. Soldiers know this, too.
