Anyone who *really thinks* CO2 threatens the future of life on earth would, one might think, support nuclear power. But most of those speaking most loudly about global warming *also* tend to be anti-nuclear.

Also, anyone really concerned about CO2 should be strongly supporting cogeneration and district heating, in which the waste heat from power plants (and there's a *lot* of waste heat) is applied to useful purposes rather than being thrown away. Haven't seen much interest in these technologies, though: guess they're not as glamourous as solar & wind.

http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/06/18/why-the-fascists-are-winning-in-europe/

Here's an article partially on the British BNP party, Book and Co.

On the day of the European elections, the Toronto Sun’s Lorrie Goldstein responded to my observations about his recent column accusing Tamilphobic Canadians of racism. “I wish,” sighed Mr. Goldstein, “Steyn would spend more time disagreeing with what racists say and less time defending their right to say it.” But that’s kind of a crowded market for a pundit to get a piece of the action in. I mean, Canada surely doesn’t need one more delicate flower shrieking “Racism!” at every affront to the multiculti pieties. That hypersensitivity is what’s helped deliver more and more of the European vote to “fringe” parties. You want to talk about immigration? Whoa, racist! Crime? Racist! Welfare? Racist! Islam? Racistracistdoubleracist!!! Nya-nya, can’t hear you with my two anti-racist thumbs in my ears!

Yes, Danny L, that is how I feel about all these academic studies, primarily the one for which Elizabeth Warren was co-author, that purport to show medical expenses as the leading cause of consumer bankruptcies, up to 60 percent, as lately mouthed by the esteemed Senator Dodd of Connecticut, citing such studies. It's science in service of an agenda, socialized healthcare being the policy goal of this specific agenda. I work in insolvency and if you look at debtors' schedules, the data are simply not there to support any such sweeping conclusions. It's little better than fraud.

A more convenient site, through the Heritage Foundation, that has a letter ready to send.

Voice your opposition to the EPA declaring carbon dioxide a greenhouse gas and harmful to humans' health:

Global warming will be recalled by historians as a time when the world went mad and the scientific community completely discredited itself. At least in the past, beliefs about alchemy and the geocentric universe could plead their case on the basis of ignorance of the facts - intellectuals of that age were feeling their way into new spheres of knowledge.

However, today's "modern science" has surrendered to ideology, the kind of ideology that gives us eugenics, radical Darwinism, ecology as religion, unwarranted fears of pandemics, Y2K, man-made global cooling and now, man-made, CO2-driven global warming. I saw this happen as a graduate student in the 1970s, as I witnessed PhD. candidates learn to sneer at the facts, alter data and twist scientific truths in their desperate search for self-aggrandizement and government funding. And, most people believe them.

The world's institutions are going absolutely insane and I suspect that, driven by our own hubris, we are tumbling toward a truly ugly reckoning with a cliff called reality.

I've been saving these two items for the right spot.

The first article questions the accuracy of the numbers and the second raises another set of questions (which I cut and pasted here).

Argentine Glacier Grows Despite Global Warming

(AP) – Argentina's Perito Moreno glacier is one of only a few ice fields worldwide that have withstood rising global temperatures. Nourished by Andean snowmelt, the glacier constantly grows even as it spawns icebergs the size of apartment buildings into a frigid lake, maintaining a nearly perfect equilibrium since measurements began more than a century ago. "We're not sure why this happens," one glacialist said.
Viewed at a safe distance on cruise boats or a wooden observation deck, Perito Moreno's jagged surface radiates a brilliant white and glows deep blue underwater. Water on one side surges until it breaks an ice wall up to 200 feet above lake level, creating a thunderous crash and eliciting applause from tourists. "The glacier has a lot of life," said a guide who leads tours over the glacier's snow fields.
