Protest when the shoe is on the other foot

Pity poor Frank Rich, former theater critic and current political opinion purveyor, since he’s very, very scared that Americans who hold beliefs different from his are daring to protest. Than read Katherine Kersten, who reminds us of two things: the Lefts’ former love for protest, as long as they were the ones protesting, and the true grass roots nature of the protests now happening.

Funny that Frank Rich forgets to summon the terrorism of Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn and the fellow SDS travelers attached to the people now in power. He also conveniently forgets that radical violence of the Anarchist and Communist Left evident during the Bush era, especially during last year’s Republican Convention.
It is disingenuous of him claim that “not one of the Democrat politicians” of the 1960 endorsed the violence of Weathermen during the Vietnam era when: a) we’re talking about Democrat politicians of this era, many of whom were ideological SDS supporters back in that era and b) no ObamaCare opponents in this era are using the violence of the Weathermen of “that era”.
Also, note Rich’s references to Timothy McVeigh and the recent “neo-nazi” Holocaust Museum killer as “right wing”, when they were anything but. Both of those individuals were more closely aligned to the anti-capitalism, anti-semitic, pro-jihadi, American-hating fringe-Left in their beliefs.
Rich’s paranoid rant would be amusing except that it is sentiments such as he expresses that would lay the groundwork for violent repression in the name of preventing violent oppression. What exactly does Rich have in mind – another Reichstag fire?
Rich’s column was filled with lies-by-omission and screams for a full-bore fisking. Kersten’s column is responded to in the comments with ad hominem attacks and little more. The temerity of open opposition on the right has driven the left even further off the beam than during the Bush administration. I wasn’t sure that was possible, but they’ve impressed me with their ability to reach new heights of insanity and inanity.
I am grateful that Frank Rich is not an engineer, who designs bridges.
Just imagine the results of his faulty logic and omissions after crossing a bridge halfway – they buckle and collapse…much like his point of view.
We have said it here many times before. Frank Rich and his pals live in a bubble of intellectual and moral superiority. Everyone they know thinks the same. Their media sources think the same. The other side is demonized. It is a childish but utterly self-satisfying way to approach life.
Sadie-very true. Folks like Rich rarely go into the practical fields. They are critics or journalists or university poli sci professors. They analyze and pontificate but they don’t actually DO things.
