Obama is an excellent speaker and during an election campaign that can make all the difference. I am British and live in England so don’t know how effective Obama has been in the short time since he became president.

The strap line of a book I recently published is “Keeping the Nazi’s off the beaches required more than fine speeches” After researching Churchill for 4 years what became apparent was the myriad of skills he used to help defeat the Nazi’s. Given fantastic speeches was just one of his many talents. My book Churchill’s Secret Kills takes these talents and applies them to a modern business environment.

What is not proven is if Obama has sufficient other talents beyond his impressive speaking abilities to deliver what the American people want.

Time alone has the answer.

Everyone is so negative! Why so negative???

Some speeches are meant to live throughout all of history.

What can you say of Cicely’s speech to General Maurus, daring him to cross that Rubicon that had never been crossed before? Or Sally Jeffeson on the steps on the Appaloosa courthouse, facing down the mob that had gathered to hang her son? Though no copies exist, surely when Laencus crossed the foothills of Carpathia in the 12th Century and spoke to the head of the lost kingdom of Cyrannus, preventing a world war… surely, as we must now surmise, surely that too was momentuous among speeches?

Surely you must agree with me! That Obama’s speech contains all the excellence that has firmly rooted those speeches I mentioned above indelibly into history. Surely you must agree with me that Obama’s inauguration speech soars with the beagles.

When I was in school, I had to memorize the Gettysburg Address. I think I can still quote it by heart – maybe a little prompting required.

I’d sure hate to have to try to memorize _any_ of Obama’s speeches. He has no concept of the meaning of “concise”.

Seems to be that Obama’s inaugural is a lot of fluff that mainly boils down to “Hooray for us”. Yet I know a guy at work who is spending hundreds of hours doing hand calligraphy of the speech to send to the White House as a gift.

And his speech about “being responsible” reminded me of the one by the corrupt politician in “Sharky’s Machine”.

Lincoln never finished the work of re-uniting the nation. The Democrats took back power in the South with the advent of the KKK, a terrorist organization designed to topple Republican governments loyal and protective of the rights of freed slaves.

And that lead to discrimination, Jim Crow, and finally to Al Sharpton and Obama.

We did not benefit from Lincoln’s assassination. The Left did, however.

What disturbed me, coming across this thin volume, was not so much the pairing of this shallow and poorly educated (HLS notwithstanding) Chicago machine pol with Lincoln, but the iconic image of Obama on the cover. The cult of personality implication here leaves me feeling very very uneasy. Not to mention, Emerson’s essay, “Self Reliance,” also included here for ballast, seems antithetical to everything the current statists and crypto-socialists of the Democrat party want to implement. Self reliant citizens do not rely on the federal government for all their sustenance.
