You are right, Book, this is a rather better quality propaganda product from Stewart than usual.

It's hard to figure out Stewart's real beliefs, because not even his name is real and most of his on screen stuff is an act. There are moments when you can get a feel for his emotions, like now, but it isn't consistent as would be the case for an executive like Bush.

Jon didn't just repeat the videos and make fun of them. He used them in a propaganda strike against the journalists. In a way, Stewart knows he is a joke and that's his job. He has other standards and beliefs about journalism, those are real.

He is an amorphous being. Some of what he says I find true or ironic, other times I know he is appealing to the Left's indoctrinated idiotry squad.

JKB:
His demographic is the young, many of whom voted for Obama to be activist. Now they see there is another way for their generation to be activist, to reveal the corruption. I’ll bet a few other budding investigative reporters just got the bug to go out and investigate.

A while back I overheard some ~18 year olds in a bookstore talking about attending a Tea Party. I made it a point to inform them that I appreciated their concern for politics and their country.

Stewart has done this a couple of time. Slam the conservatives then the story really questioned Obama. Right out of Obama's playbook of give everyone something to latch on to that supports their view.

This clip however has potential. The legacy media can hardly ignore the story if Stewart is doing it. Plus, he highlights it is a couple of kids who broke the story.
I remember a few weeks ago we were discussing how long it would take Stewart to turn on Obama. Analogies to the scorpion who fatally stings the frog who's carrying him across the river were introduced, and the fact that assaulting Bush was going to get old very fast. New meat would be required.

I think Stewart is attacking on the flank here. God knows ACORN deserves it, and his skewer job was fantastic. But he's also shaking the oak (a very hard thing to do---ever seen a full-grown oak?). He's waiting for, so he can comment on, the horribly inept response that ACORN and its defenders will mount. It will be a gift that keeps giving.

It may also be that Stewart, who is not stupid or oblivious, realizes that 1 million royally pissed off people showed up in DC on the 12th. He may be thinking that it's time to leave the far rear and run up to a place at the head of the people so that he can help lead them. Couldn't hurt the ratings.

Meanwhile, Obama, the world's most intelligent president, would be wise to throw ACORN under the bus, even though that will spoil his plan to manipulate the 2010 and 2012 elections.
