Open Thread and Just Because — Bing and Hope

Tasks this morning, so blogging must wait.  Also, I’m still struggling with a “big idea” that seems to have blocked my capacity to make many observations about the current scene.  I went to a scintillating book group meeting last night, though, and am hopeful that it will help break the mental damn.

    BREAKING NEWS – All the O’s

    Two planes, Mr. & Mrs. O and the other Chicago ‘O’ (Oprah) left Copenhagen with a big O for their Olympic pitch. The financial O’s in this brief news item is the cost to Chicago – approximately a $100 million dollars.

    TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Four U.S. Republican lawmakers met with Honduras’ interim president on Friday in a challenge to Washington’s condemnation of the coup that brought him to power.

    The brief, amicable visit with the leaders of the coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya highlights a divide in Washington, where the Obama administration is working to reinstate Zelaya but many conservatives side with the government installed after soldiers arrested the president in his pajamas and flew him into exile.

    South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, the leader of the delegation, said before the trip that even calling Zelaya’s overthrow a coup is “ill-informed and baseless.”

    Jim DeMint, the new leader of the Republican Conservative Party? I know nothing about him, other than this and that he was on the right side of the bailout.

    I was watching Coulter on the Behar show, where Behar has throwing Beck, Limbaugh and others in Coulter’s face as spokesmen for the Republicans and how terrible that was.
    Coulter countered that Republicans didn’t have a single leader, no one person spoke of Republicans, including Steele. Assuming DeMint has no skeletons lurking, like Stan in “My Cousin Vinny” after watching an inept cross-examination by his court appointed lawyer and then watches Vinny shred the witness, rises and shouts to the Fred Gwynne “I want him to represent me”.
    At this point, with Republicans seemingly AWOL, “I want that man to speak for me.”
