Anyway, that was a year after Ike had sent the Marines into Lebanon to save the government.  Essex had been part of the supporting Naval force and the Lebanese were aware of it.  They swamped the ship with visitors and adulation.  There was no question as to how they felt about Americans at that time.]]></description>
