Talk about a Freudian moment in Obama’s life

Glancing at New York Times this morning told me that Obama used his presidential prerogative to borrow a whole bunch of paintings to furnish his new home. I didn’t look at the article or the paintings, though. Turns out I should have.

Perhaps it can be concluded that the art one chooses reflects on the kind of person one is. ∅bama’s previous executive experience before 1/20/2009 was handing out $100 million in wasted research funds for the Annenberg Challenge, which in no way indicated any skill at decision-making. It thus is fitting that he chooses a work of art with the theme of indecision.
Being a child of the twentieth century, I am comfortable with non-representational art. The contemporary art he chose, or someone chose for the White House strike me as being decidedly unimpressive. Perhaps there were striking intellectual statements behind the art, but I don’t judge art for its “intellectual statements,” but for the emotional reaction I get from it. BLAAH. Someone has really bad taste in art.
And the 19th century Carlin paintings of Indians: how PC can you get?
I liked the telegraph model. Off the wall.
