After the physical removal of settlers in Gush Katif near the Gaza Strip (let's not forget that the State of Israel helped the settlers move and were given very low interest loans, etc.) Sharon decided that it was impossible to protect them any longer from the daily rocket attacks. If you recall, it was both a physically and emotionally gut wrenching experience for the settlers and the soldiers. Not only did they have to move and relocate, they all had to dig up and rebury the dead elsewhere. Some soldiers are religious, others not and probably most somewhere in between, but they like the settlers are Israelis. A high price was paid before, during and after. Some have friends or served with soldiers in these areas. All in all not a good situation.

Now back to Book's points...
Obama's gall meets the audacity of denial.
“The lack of archaeological evidence of the ancient temples has led many Palestinians to deny any real Jewish attachment or claim to the plateau.”
The excavated tunnels under the Western Wall (a 15 year and ongoing project) negates the inaccuracy (LIE) of quoted comment. Under the visible Western Wall is the original. The Phony-stinians had been in hysterical mode at the onset of excavations, claiming (they're always claiming) that it would destroy the mosques and their myths. They apply the same street tactics as we heard in the 60's - "By any means necessary". Short of taking a tour in person, which I highly recommend, you can go to youtube and get a visual tour online and I am sure there are many sites with more information. Note: the better tour is in Hebrew, but it does have some bubble captions in English.

Not really rational, but then the Jewish revolts were so costly they must have appeared irrational to Hadrian as well.

The region known as Palaestina, and there are various spellings, was named so by Emperor Hadrian after a couple of Jewish revolts against Roman rule. The region had heretofore been named Judea. Hadrian decided to rename it in honor of the Jew's ancestral enemes, the Philistines.

Here and I thought Israel was a sovereign nation.

Perhaps Netanyahu should suggest areas of Chicago where building should be prohibited...there are certainly areas that have been government authorized which are unlivable...

<em>"Everything about the Palestinians is a falsification" </em>
The name "Falastin" that Arabs today use for "Palestine" is not an Arabic name. It is the Arab pronunciation of the Roman "Palaestina". Quoting <a href="http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_faq_palestine_leaders_israel.php" rel="nofollow">Golda Meir</a>:
The British chose to call the land they mandated Palestine, and the Arabs picked it up as their nation's supposed ancient name, though they couldn't even pronounce it correctly and turned it into Falastin a fictional entity. [In an article by Sarah Honig, Jerusalem Post, November 25, 1995]
<strong>Fauxstinians </strong>summarizes it nicely, don't ya think.

Don't forget that the Hagia Sophia, Islam's proud Mosque, was first built on the orders of Emperor Justinian as a Christian temple.
