Gringo, Kerry himself admitted he was going around blowing up villages and shooting innocent civilians and what not. Just cause his 'whistleblower' status gave him immunity, just means he was either telling the truth about himself or he was lying.

Criminal charges would be better applied to those who wanted to chastise the SEALs in the first place.

Interesting how often Tom Lehrer songs pop up in political blogs these days. My parents corrupted my childhood by exposing me to his songs, which I have had memorized for decades. His topical comedy songs, which by definition apply to a given era, are still apropos and humorous a half century later. His output was sparse but magnificent. Don't agree with his politics, but love his songs.

War and football. Famed Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes was renowned for his knowledge of military history. It could be said that he went down swinging, as he got fired for punching an opponent who had intercepted an Ohio State pass.

One further comment about war and football. In discussions about John Kerry and his four medals, some ex-servicemen pointed out to me that it was useless to engage in a discussion about whether he deserved them or not. They pointed out that some servicemen performed acts of heroism for which medals were deserved, but did not win any medals. Conversely, some received medals which they did not deserve. Nonetheless, I found it interesting that I have suffered more grievous wounds from weekend soccer and football games than Kerry suffered for his medals.

Recently, we have been shifting our resources from Iraq to Afghanistan. And one day last week, before a flight, a commercial came on AFN. It was President Obama telling fathers to read to their children, to pay attention to them. It was a nice, weird thought. I was about to spend the whole day over Afghanistan and it just struck me as odd. We need direction and decisions, not platitudes from our Commander. So, I grabbed a Stars and Stripes. I usually try to find one before I fly, mostly to read while the ground crew runs their two hour+ check. And in it is an article remarking on the Great Wall of China. There is Obama saying: It looked magical! That is his quote. I am not anti-Obama, but magical is supporting your men and women as they do their job. Actually, that is not magical, but loyal. I have nothing else to say. . .

If you're asking yourself about the Navy Seals today ... get out a pencil and paper, I think there are more questions coming up.
snip here and the rest below at link
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed "great regret" in August that the U.S. is not a signatory to the International Criminal Court (ICC). This has fueled speculation that the Obama administration may reverse another Bush policy and sign up for what could lead to the trial of Americans for war crimes in The Hague.

What makes terrorism dangerous isn't that they like to kill people, or even blowing themselves up to kill people. What makes them abnormally dangerous is that they are asymmetric. It isn't that we have a fight, we attack, they defend, they attack, and we defend. that'd be symmetrical. Asymmetrical warfare is them killing us and we have no defense.

As there is no defense now against their tactics.

The terrorist would not have relied on a protest in any other nation. He was trained for this, obviously. Trained by those aiding and abetting terrorism in the US.

The anti-Gitmo people, to name just one faction, changes the rules on interrogations and holdings, which the terrorists then study in public and proceed to take advantage of. They claim these changes are for human rights ,but since when has the Left ever advanced human rights, anywhere? They're lying just like terrorists are lying about abuse.

RE: the subject at hand -- I totally agree with c.b.i. From the moment I heard this, my (admitted) bias inclined me to think that the terrorist bloodied his own lip in order to accuse his captors! Don't we have Al Qaeda manuals instructing them in what lies to tell to get their jailers in trouble?
One other thing....this post provides the SECOND thing of immense practical value that I've gotten from Bookworm's site - the first was the URL for a location to buy MBT shoes at a discount. I wear nothing else these days, and buying them at 40% (or more) off the MSRP has saved me a LOT of money. And now, a place to listen to Rush's podcasts for free!! Wowie-Zowie!! At last! Thank you, thank you.......

Being retired military, I'm in an "insufficient data" situation. There's a paucity of information available -- I can't even find who the convening authority is, much less any specifics. Nothing on centcom.mil nor defense.mil. I suspect that bookworm's take on this is correct, but there is a small chance that there is much more to the story than we know. One possible scenario:

SEALs capture the bast... Ahmed; possibly with a struggle.
Ahmed put in jail cell.
Ahmed bloodies his own lip or reopens wound received during capture.
Ahmed and his lawyer lodge complaint, as is SOP with jihadists.
Investigating officer finds a "he-said, no-he-said" situation, and doesn't want to make the call, so refers charges up the command.
A senior commander (Admiral?) decides to deal with the charges.
SEALs request full court martial rather that Admiral's Mast (non-judicial punishment hearing). (This provides them with legal represention, a military judge, and possibly a court (jury), and has stricter rules of evidence. It is also more open to the public.)

That's where we stand now. The italicized items above refer to speculation. To be frank, my money'd be on the SEALs on this: that they will be vindicated.

People voted for the destruction of the US military when they cast the ballot for Obama. Now they want to wash their hands clean and direct the blood guilt elsewhere, as if Bush was the one that had stretched the US military to the breaking point and not them.
