Don Quixote’s Thought for the Day: “Retarded”

I don’t have a lot to say about the “retarded” comment by Rahm Emanuel or Sarah Palin’s response, although she certainly has every right to be especially offended.  My question is, if a Republican made the comment, would he keep his job, and if a Republican made the comment would Palin and other Republicans be calling for his head.  I have no real feel for this, but I’d be interested in the comments of those who do.

As you said, Mrs. Palin has every right to be upset. Based on the integrity and independent spirit she has shown, I believe she would call for the head of anyone who used similar language. It’s just icing on the cake that her current target is an Amerikka hating marxist.

I thought it was interesting that Emmanuel spoke to the head of Special Olympics and his apology was accepted.  So now Special Olympics, aside from getting more money than the Summer Olympic athlets get, is now the sole voice of the mentally handicapped.

As usual, I have mixed feelings about it.  First, I have an inherent rejection of the “politically incorrect”, and I feel that’s what this is.  It bothers me that Palin should use this…it seems out of character.  I _don’t_ think she would automatically “call for the head of anyone who used the term” – at least not in a non-political setting.  On the other hand, it’s a typical lefty politically correct thing to do – I agree that if a Repub had said such a thing, the Left would have demanded someone’s head on a platter, and from that aspect I’m glad to see her calling them on their own hypocrisy.  From that angle, I cheer her on – call them on their missteps every time.  And of course, although it would never happen, I’d _love_ to see Rahm sent back to Chicago.  The left doesn’t _really_ care, though – they just use stuff like this to hit Conservatives over the head with because they _do_ care.

As for the apology…that’s funny.  The fact is…he’d _never_ in a hundred years apologize to Palin…NEVER!!  But of course, politically correct is politically correct.  Live by the sword, die by the sword – so he had to apologize to _someone_.  And no one ever said Rahm wasn’t politically adept…so…Special Olympics it is.  Of course, if the folks at SO had any class, they’d refuse the apology and tell him to direct it to Sarah.  But they won’t.  Money talks louder than words, and the Dems absolutely know how to put it to good use.

that is the problem with this country. since when does someone have the right to be “offended” by someone’s words. it is just a damn word. this hypersensitivity has got to stop on all of our parts. now, if you or palin were just trying to point out a double-standard that exists, then i get.

“as Glenn Reynolds quips, “Rahm Emanuel compares Democrats to retarded people, then apologizes to retarded people.”‘

Found this line quoted on another blog and just had to pass it along…!
